I'm thinking of shortening......

..... the standard 12gsa screen by about 50mm. It's still too high even at its lowest setting (back all the way).

How should I go about it? I'm thinking of a jigsaw with plenty of masking tape to protect it then round the edges off with wet and dry.

Whats the consequences (aerodynamically) of getting rid of the slight curve at the top?

Should I try and reproduce the profile at the top (higher in the centre)?

Anyone already done it?

Alternatively are there lower aftermarket screens?

Cutting the lip of the top of the screen was a mod I tried when the std 1150s first came out, it did seem to reduce turbulence.

Use masking tape over both side and mark with a pen, use a fine blade on a jigsaw and take your time and you should get a good finish then use a file then wet and dry.

Why not simply swap it with someone for a standard GS screen?

I've got a brand new one sitting spare in the garage and would be happy to do a swap if it would be any help to you.

I've cut screens with a Dremel (actually a no-brand equivalent). Used the cutting blade to make the first cut, then finished off with finer and finer grinding tools.

Top tip is to make a cut at 25mm first to practice, then do the final cut at 50mm. I wish I had

Yoda, I didn't think the two screens were the same (except for height). Am I wrong? Will the gs screen go straight onto the gsa?

The two screens are interchangeable - I say that because I have a GSA screen on my GS and it was a straightforward change.
I would hesitate to cut your screen down - at least try the GS screen first; Otherwise buy a smaller screen from Touratech or Wunderlich etc; and flog your GSA one to the growing number of GS riders who want to change UP.
However IF you do decide to cut your screen down I can tell you how to do it. Firmly stick sellotape over the line you wish to cut and then use a vibrating saw - (the best are 'Hegner' made in Germany and expesive £300 +)If you are clever enough you will not have to do much filing or polishing afterwards - if you are not so skilled you will find it very difficult to get right and may crack the screen.
Practice on a bit of plastic first - a signwriter will have plenty of off-cuts. If you don't use the sellotape the cut will weld up afterwards as you go along - don't ask me why!
