Thought I'd ask the question here....

fancy an iMac as my old Dell is playing up

will Mapsource work on it? or does it have to operate on windows?

Cheers in advance :thumb

mapsource only runs on windows so you can run it on a mac but you need to install bootcamp, vmware or parallels desktop and windows.

Garmin are beta testing bobcat which isn't quite up to mapsource yet but allows route plotting etc

bobcat seems to have got better recently. you can drag and drop routes now, i think.

i have it on my macbook, but haven't had time to do the map transfer yet.

mapsource runs perfectly on my imac and macbook under VMware fusion. following a member here's advice, it all runs off a flash drive so no need to pollute the macs with windows, and is transferable between machines :)

Thanks for the replies folks...

Now got the new imac up and running... need to mess about with mapsource then ....

I'll end up blowing the street up

Bobcat lets you create and edit routes etc. What it doesn't allow you to do is select and install maps on your GPSR. Not a problem if you have pre-loaded maps a la Zumo 550. Even with one of these you need Mapsource for additional maps so if you're thinking of going to Morocco and want to install the Morokko-topo maps you'll have to use Mapsource

er, not sure thats correct, Garmin also provide MapManager for mac which should let you do this although the latest bobcat beta also looks like it might offer a map transfer as there is a "send maps with transfer" option in preferences, I haven't tried it so can't confirm if it works
