my 1150gs has an alarm/immobiliser fitted.

the key fob plipper works but not the manual override key.

can it be coaxed back to life or is it banjaxed?

i've tried a search but couldn't find anything re override keys.
 
The 1150 didn't come with an alarm/immobiliser fitted from the factory AFAIK so it''ll be aftermarket.

More trouble than they're worth, electronic security add-ons. Rip it out and get a big lock and chain - they won't go wrong and stop your bike working in the middle of nowhere in the pouring rain when it's pitch black.......
 
Remove it and bin the fecking thing.

I`ve said it before but it`s true that the only person any of these alarm/immobilisers are going to be a problem to is the actual owner of the bike....
 
It sounds like the one on my GSA which is the BMW fitted one, I believe, connected to the BMW alarm.

The manual override is very dubious. I keep it on my spare key ring which is the one I usually grab if I need to move the bike around the garden because it's in the way of something important. I have to press it agains the little contact and then wiggle it about for a few seconds to get it to react. Sometimes I have to do it a few times before it lights up. The electrically powered whatsit turns it on straight away.

Why does that remind me of something else..?

I have often thought about ditching the whole alarm system for the reasons expressed by the other gentlemen above. I should consult with St Eptoe the next time I visit on the practicality of doing so.

That sounds like the BMW alarm system that was fitted to my 1150, mine was definitely a factory job, right down to a handbook that matched the rider manual.

Just on the later bikes maybe? I have a brochure for my year (2002) and it doesn't mention an alarm on the options/accessories pages near the back.

Still, even a factory fitted alarm is going to cause problems eventually - better off without it.

That bike was a 2000, my concern was that as a factory fit one its immobiliser might be wired right into the bike and more difficult to remove.

Might help if you post the make and model of the alarm/immobiliser :nenau

gemel gr480. advice seems to be clean the metal contacts on the touch key and led on the dash and if it still doesn't work, it's dead.

I think Tarka and Sproggy have the right idea :aidan
