Am getting involved in an arguement with my dealership regarding aledged impact damage on the front and rear rims. they are saying that because i rode the bike up over a 4" kerb, at a speed under 10 KPH, the impact damaged the rim. My arguement is that the rims are substandard quality. The sales pitch that pictures these supurb bikes in far off and ruggedly inaccessable places. Just the reliability you are praying for when you need it. Any feelings on the matter please.

I have to ride up a 4" curb every day to get into the yard where I keep my 1100 GS.

I've been doing it for the last two years plus riding off steps etc.. off road without any problems.

I could see the rims being damaged though if your tyres aren't properly inflated.

yeah i agree - i rode mine up and down kurbs all the time in london, thats one of the reasons i bought a GS - never had any problem at all... if they can't handle little bump like that, they're not going to be much good off-road.

I hit a slab of concrete about 8ft long and 12ft wide and 6to8ins thick, flat out on mine, 130ish, two up, loaded panniers and top box. It nearly broke my feckin arms, the wheel had a very slight "ding" in it and I was amazed we got away with it so lightly. Untill we got home and found oil all down the fork legs, the impact had bent the forks forward against the telelever. Both stantions were bent over 10mm out of true, over a distance of maybe 7ins. I straightened them, and put a new set of fork seals in, It's still the same front wheel though. I can't see how riding up a curb at 5mph is going to bend a rim unless you had two flat tyres
