Importing

Not a proof of cost......it's a proof of date of the bike coming into the country.

Because if applicable, VAT is calculated against the cost of the vehicle and the cost of importing it (customs duty, ferry cost etc.). They don't just ride ye, they RIDE ye.

there in lies the issue I wont have proof of date of enter and there will be €0 ferry cost to me.

Might ring them to see what i should do

Any ideas how you would go about clearing this: a bike in Ireland since around 2021 from the UK, but originally from Germany (imported into UK in 2004). 1986 so a classic. has V5 in original UK owners name. ??
Did the same thing recently with a 92 bike which was in the country years and i had the English v5,
Because i had an English and not northern Ireland address on the v5 i had to hire a customs agent to prove when the bike came into the country.
Because they could not prove when it came in i had to pay vat on the purchase price on the receipt i had
because the bike was a classic there was no vrt due just vat and the customs agent to be paid.
With out the customs agent i would not have got it registered.

An other option is if you know someone get it registered in the north for 4 months or more then there should be no charges

There in lies the question, i have been looking at bikes for sale here and some have uk books.

These are Enduro bikes so lot people don't need them n the road so never bother getting them onto irish plates.
Have a read of my post above as i did register an enduro bike very recently

Im going through the process of Registering a jeep at the moment, bought in N.Ireland.
I only have to write down on a sheet of paper that i drove it down myself on a certin date and sign same, no other proof necessary apparently. However as Hatcho said if there's an opertunity to extract funds from you during a transfer like ferry crossing or if i had my vehicle transported down for me then it would be taxable.

I can have seller sign a receipt and I can find out from uk when was "exported" as i have a picture of log book and section 5 is removed. MOT was last done in 2020 so hasn't been out of uk very long.

I think ill have see if its worth the hassle and just go for the one that's already on Irish plates but nice hike in price

if its in the south to long they can give you a fine for not clearing within 30 days, any receipt will be ok

its in a few years, current owner is the 2 owner in here. If i got a receipt say i bough it in Ireland it may work

Or i might just scrap the 300 smoker and buy the 250 thumper that's already on Irish plates

i had a receipt from northern Ireland,
probably depends on who you meet on the day

You mention it's a Jeep and it's commercial.
Is that without seats and windows in the back?
For years most jeeps were capable of being registered as commercial, even with seats and windows if they met certain conditions.
I believe that's all gone now.

Its a crew cab.......seats windows,registered as a commercial.

Apologies if there's confusion,
The vehicle is not made by the manufacturer "Jeep"
I guessed that. The generic term that we all use, not the brand.
Up to recently, a 5 seat Range Rover, for example, could be called a crew cab if there was sufficient distance between the back of the drivers seat and the back door (or something like that)
That's gone now, as far as I know.
I presume yours is a genuine crew cab. Might be no harm to check with customs before handing over money and getting hit with an unexpected bill.
