Impressions of the 1190 ADV

As you have chosen to ignore the whole point of my post ie an amateur journalistic attempt at writing yet another ride report on the new KTM adv, several have already been written and posted. I was questioning the need for yet another ride report on the same bike. Clearly this is a motorcycle forum where people discuss among many other things, motorcycles. My point about not feeling compelled to give my opinion was referring to the need to write about a test ride on a bike that others have already done. As for listening to journalists' opinions and basing my future bike purchases on what they say; I don't remember saying that either:thumb2.

In the context of my original post; if you choose to read it properly, I fail to see any irony.

I think the bit you are missing is a single view by an armature or a professional is just that, a single persons view.

The benefit of different views particularly when they are written by someone who you believe has some credibility, in this case 100,000 miles on the same GS and having taken himeself and others on rides that do test the metal of people and machinery, is it gives you alternatives to consider.

No one is forcing you to read them or even accept them.

Jonnie do you think you may just sound a bit like an amateur literary journo critic?

Is that a compliment?:D

Jeez, if I'd known that I wouldn't have even considered writing what I have, 100,000 miles on the same motorcycle . I have just found another hero.;)

Now you've gone to far the other way... They are only alternative views to be considered if you are intrested, hero worshiping is not a requirment :-)

I guess I fall into the amatuer wannabe journo's catagory as I've done many a write-up on several bikes over the years. It's something I like doing and I also like reading others thoughts and points about some new bike on the block. When does a write-up about a bike become unnecessary to write or read then ? The KTM has been out since around March, so has it been done to death, the same as the many riders reports on the 2013 WC ? I suppose that some people will write a piece on a certain bike and post it on a forum like this to slag off a competitors bike either to make themselves feel better about their chosen brand or model of bike or to stir up some debate. But in the greater scheme of what goes on in the life of a forum or the lives of its members, the end result won't stop the Earth from turning.

having owned a GS with all the bells and whistles for almost 3 months , I believe the KTM is totally different class , how peeps can say the bike has no character in comparison is laughable..
Glad I bought a KTM and really happy with my purchase , electronics and all :)
One thing I have noticed on this forum , its appears to be obvious that some people bought a GS and have never ridden anything better because they have never ridden anything else pfft

I for one enjoy reading what others on here find on their test rides.... if you're interested in a particular bike surely ride reports are the first port of call, before you call in at the dealers for a test ride yourself ?

I tend to cherry pick the useful bits, like comfort/buffeting, and pillion room.... it all helps

Mate, I have ridden loads and loads of bikes and not found anything yet which is "better" for me than my 1200ADV. I do love my GS and have done over 200k on 3 of them so I would readily admit that it would take one hell of a bike to get me off one. I don't need 150hp or a sports bike with big bars which I think the 1190 is designed to be. I really like the old 990 because it has loads of character but in my opinion KTM have engineered this out to attract a wider audience and I don't have a problem with that. Sure, the engine is a peach and is up there with the quickest bikes on the road I would suggest, the on road handling is excellent as well but for some reason I just didn't like it or gel with it and believe me, I really wanted to. Character in a bike is something you can't put your finger on and my bike has it in spades and it's probably due to miles I've spent on it and the things I've done to her to make her mine.

I'm booking a go on the R as I think that maybe a bit more likeable with the bigger wheels etc but I'm not putting bets on it. It was the same with the Explorer which I found to be hugely capable but just not for me.

I'm glad you like yours and I can see why but it's a good job we are all different eh?

Can't say fairer than that.:thumb
