Improvements to riding position 1100GS

I went for Migsel lower footrests on my 1150 and can recommend them.

In addition I put 10mm packing pieces under the seat locating blocks which is a very cheap way to raise the seat height.

Bar risers are definitely good.....I fitted mine 'backwards', EG they go up and FORWARDS rather than up and towards me......made a big difference.

Pivot pegs are also good, as they not only lower the pegs, but also allow them to....er....pivot :blast

That means your feet aren't quite as glued in position so you can rotate ankles a bit on the move.

If you wear MX boots though and have feet commensurate with your height, you may also need a gear extender.....I just couldn't fit my size 13 boots under the gear change lever with the wider Pivot pegs on and my Volvo kickers on my feet

Daft but quick idea.......loosen the bars off and twist them up/round a few inches as well......watch for taught cabling and be careful on a test ride 'cos obviously the controls will be shifted as well, but that might give you a feel for a better position you can aim for :thumb2

PS take the cash-laden brand snobs who instantly say things like 'Get a Corbin, that will 'definitely sort you out' with a bucket of salt......for one thing, one expensive seat is very different from another expensive seat in fit and suitability and you could go through the whole range before you find one that works for you, spending a couple of grand in the process....

For another, they are fucking expensive and relatively cheap and easy solutions, although they may lack the brand cache that so many of the people here seem to worship, often work far better.....treating the cause rather than the symptoms.

Erm, just how much are pivots pegs?:augie
I have some on my KTM because it came with them, they're not really going to help make an 1100GS any more comfortable imo and many prefer the solid feel of fixed pegs.

Cash laden brand snobs? :nenau
Corbin's needn't be expensive if you keep your eyes open for 2nd hand (£100 for a pair of mint leather one's which will always hold their value) and who's gone through £2000 trying to find the right seat?...name and shame:eek::blast:D

Tilting the bars forward is great for standing offroad, I keep an allen key in my handlebar bag to adjust them, but for long road rides it tends to push your elbows out, bringing your shoulders up...ie. not comfortable.

We're all giving good advise here but as your question only asked about the seat to footrest position, then if you really want to sort it on the cheap, raise the seat mountings with some washers or bits off Vern, alter the seat as I mentioned above.
Buy 2nd hand Pan European pegs for peanuts (or Fastways if you want to pay more) and £17 for some bar risers from local offroad dealer...Bob's your Uncle:thumb

Hi Timolgra,

I'm going down the line of rising the seat and bars and lower pegs. Vern is out of seat risers but is going to speak to me and advise how I should do it.
Cheap is good, I really don't care about 'labels'. You mention Pan European foot pegs. Do they fit or do you need to build some kind of adaptor plate and how much lower are they than the standard Beemer ones? I'm interested in this option as it sounds like cracking value.

Cheers

Mark

Hi Chaps,
Wanted to thank everyone for their advice. I've ordered a set of lowered pegs and bar risers from www.migsel.com. They seemed to offer much better value than other better known companies. I've also taken my seat off and will look to bolt in some kind of risers once I've fitted the other items just ordered.
Appriciate all the help.
