In considering a Mono' G/S..

Monos rule !!!
END OF :augie

Are you coming to the WeeKend Benjamin???
be nice to give it a look over....:thumb2

What tyres are fitted to your g/s ???
If you need new ones I recommend the Metzler Enduro 1 + 2 set up.
As originally fitted to ALL g/s's .

Paralevers are complicated buggers
I'm all for the easy life :rob

Benjamin, Welcome but I hope you realizr that this machine will have to be "vetted" ( piss taken) by the venerable members of this forum. The (not so) gentlemens Weekend is comming up and its just a nice ride away from you. You may have to spend time with a load of old farts smelling of wee but you will have fun and get lots of first class advice.:rob

Benjamin,

You aren't that young ;) - I'm 21 and i ride a 1991 R100GS (Para).
Love it to bits, currently undergoing a loving restoration project. Thread here.

You can't go wrong with an Airhead GS - Whether you get a Mono or a Para. Personally I prefer the Para - But each to their own.

Post up some Photos of your new Bike for us! :)

Hello chaps,

If I can get the bike MOT'd in time for the wee-kend then I'd certainly like to come. It should make for a nice ride anyway.

This is basically how she was when I picked her up..

Since then all I've done really is given it a proper clean and degrease. I've taken off the 'orrible rack shown in the picture above and got a new rear loom to move the signals back to there original position. I've polished up the downpipes and silencer which have come up pretty nice with some work.

Other than that I've started painting the front of the frame, and I'll start on the crashbars next week. Painted the rear (Fournales) shock up as well, though I'm not sure how long that will last :augie. Next week I'm going to change the filters, oil, top up the battery and start putting it all back together. The neutral light and speedo don't work at the moment, but that can wait for the minute.

This is the bike in her current state.. awaiting another coat of primer.

I shall post some more pictures when she's all back together.

Cheers, Benjamin :thumb

Neutral switch under the gearbox...disconnect the wires and join them up to see if the light/wiring works. If it does then remove engine mounting bar and tap out the central spacer so you can gain access to the switch ( obviously do this when changing the gearbox oil and no oil is in there !! ) and replace with new one:thumb2 Speedos do ( sadly ) fail..but disconnect cable at gearbox and connect to an electric drill to see if cable OK etc ( fastest speed ever shown on an airhead :D )

Thanks for the tips Kenny. I'll give it a go! :thumb

P.s, what's the deal with the Wee-Kend? I'm not sure if I'll be able to make but I will try. Do I need to sign up now, or is it cool to let someone know nearer the time as to wether or not I'll be able to?

Chaaars, Benjamin

apologies for not having managed to hook up but when I'm home you're working at the pub !!
Bring it to the airhead weekend and get it sorted.
I'll have to get my superior para sorted now there's another GS in town !!
cheers
Mike

Hello Mike,

Yes by all means do drop into the pub. I shall have to make sure the G/S is outside in time so as the para' doesn't steal all the glory!

Are you coming to the wee-kend by the way?

Thanks for the tips Kenny. I'll give it a go! :thumb

Tis the best rally IMHO of the year...you'll always be welcome even if just stopping by ( but helps the lovely Babs and Mrs Pink Sid to work out rough catering - roughly being the word, they really lay on a massive superb scoff ) but MUST go on an airhead...standards are standards !!:rob

:D

I'm still struggling with a bad back so if I come I'll be like quasi modo !!:D

GS

Hi Benjamin I like your beast look forward to seeing it in the flesh. I hope to be at the wee-kend but unfortunately not on the para as its on sorn pending some maintenance. I currently am on an XRV750 I bought from a neighbour of yours Rob Gravestock do you know him ?

As long as you have an airhead, you may attend by other means if Airhead is inoperable..
PW did so last year, Val accompanied his missus on his oily piece of crap whilst she was riding her airhead :thumb2
Others bought them in vans or Trailered them..me for eg

Hello, just thought that I would post a quick update for interested parties..

The bike is all back together now, looking much better for the paint and a proper clean. She went in for MOT today but failed unfortunately due to shagged front wheel bearings :( I should have been more thorough, but what the hey..

At least that is all that she failed on. Everything else seems to be in good order.

I'm taking her into a local shop next week to get the bearings replaced anyway. I had briefly considered doing it myself, but the shimming looks like a PITA, and we don't have a dial gauge or a bearing puller either so I decided against it.

Time is a bit of an issue at the moment as well, so better just to let someone qualified crack on with it.

On the plus side she's running lovely and smooth, and it was nice to ride her down for the test.

Next up after new bearings is to fit the Siebenrock 320mm front disk kit and then the deeper Wüdo sump that should be coming in the post, so I look forward to nailing those on.

I'll try to post some more pictures up soon.

Hope that you all enjoy the Wee-Kend anyway :beerjug:

All the best,

Benjamin :thumb
