Judge,Thank you for my personal reply.
Yes I used an agent/audiologist for the ear moulds that were then sent in to UE for the monitors to be made, this was arranged by UE after speaking to them for the first time and after they recommended a suitable product, the air-tubes were not mentioned.
Whilst I accept that my monitors are still working I think that the option of and upgrade should be offered to customers, whilst I never said I would want this for free a considerable discount I would expect on the required work. The longer my monitors last, be it through care or luck the more difficult it will be to achieve a repair under warranty (should/when they go wrong) without the user being possibly accused for poor handling. In my experience, manufacturers that experience repeated reliability issues with a product would recall said products for repair/modification....an example is motorcycle industry we all use.
Having bought the UE monitors (top of he range jobbies) I do now find it quite amusing that UE specialise in Ear Protection and offer a product to motorcyclists that is reputed to have some of the best audiophile qualities available (they are excellent). Considering the product is used by bikers travelling the roads, trails, world even, in rain, storms, dust, I wonder why such musicality is considered a necessity or even considered at the design stage. I don't think any motorcyclist really needs 'music studio' quality monitors....do they? I suppose this was part of the reason for the development of the air-tube but this system does have its big downsides with sound being resonated through the tubes if not routed carefully.
An electrical product that provided average/good sound quality at half the price is all I and probably most really needed. This could/should be a future development that UE might consider? I may be alone in this but my expectations of a product that costs £100 is far less than one costing twice as much, should it fail early is also easier to forgive/forget.
Maybe/probably I am way off the mark with my comments above? I do think I will contact UE at some point and see what the cost/work is involved in getting the better cabling on my monitors.

OK the last reply was too general for you Adie so here's one just for you.
Should your monitors require repair they will be repaired to the latest standard of production. But right now your monitors are working perfectly and for all we know will continue to do so. In your use they have not failed and there is no certainty that will change.
You are in the majority of users who have not suffered a failure and long may that remain.
Its not Ultimate's belief that the rate of repair warrants a total recall so therefore I don't feel there is justification to fix what isn't broken, I reccomment you continue to enjoy your prodcut free of the paranoia that they will break, cos they might not, in four and a half years of pretty constant use mine never.
As to why you weren't offerd air-tubes, if you went to an Audiologist Agent for impression taking that is all they do, take the impression and you place an order for the product free of their involvement direct with Ultimate.
Airtube monitors have been 'on the counter' at every show stand in the last year, along with many other shooting, musician, sleeping, filtered, industrial specific products.
For that reason if you want an upgrade before your product has failed I am certain you can have that done and should you enquire with the sales office a price will be offered to you to have it done.
