In need of guidence please

I want to buy a rider to pillion system which can also hook up to a garmin 350. The question i have is that i always always always wear in ear protectors. So if i buy the sena system which appears to be one of the best at the moment, with the in helmet speakers fitted, do i have to remove my ear protection to be able to hear the intercom,( bit of a daft question i suppose.)
I don't think i could do that, or am i missing something. Perhaps there is something else i could use instead that you might recommend instead.

Firstly, is the 350 bluetooth ?.
secondly, with regard to speakers, a wired system such as Autocom or Starcom speakers fit well in helmets as they are flat. BUT, has your helmet got recesses for speaker fitment ?.
I personally tried bluetooth kit but went back to my old Stardom system as the sound quality was poor on the BT kit.

Cannot answer the actual question you pose, but here is a response of sorts. I too also always wear some sort of ear protection. I bought a Sena SMH10R and am very very pleased with it. But I bought the optional cable (about £10 I think) that allows me to use earbuds rather than the in helmet speakers. The earbuds I use are actually from a Sony Bluetooth radio that I no longer use, but the earbuds offer me a decent fit in my ears, and are not too long and so do not cause me any pressure discomfort when worn under a helmet. And the sound is great, be it navigation directions, music from my Nav V, or intercom from my wife on the pillion seat. I had intended to get something like the Ultimate Ears buds made, but if I am honest, the Sony buds do the job I want and protect my ears.

I believe that with the SMH10 you do not need the optional cable as the BT unit that attaches to your helmet already has a jack socket which is not there on teh SMH10R.

I wear fitted earplugs and have no trouble hearing satnav or mobile through the headset at up to legal speeds.

+1 I use these with an Autocom system plenty loud enough, yet good noise protection. But can't speak for the volume output of the Sena systems, never had one. Did try the Scala but volume with ear protection was poor so switched back to Autocom wired.

I use the Sena SMH-5 in my Neotec with the standard Sena in-helmet speakers and have yet to reach the limits of the volume range even at motorway speeds. Of course it does depend on a) good placement of the speakers - people's ears are not necessarily exactly where they think they are (!), and b) how noisy your ride is - I spend my life hidden behind a great big screen (Madstad on my Triumph Tiger, standard screen plus wind deflector when I had the RT).

going to get the sena smh10r model and just see how it goes. Will report back after testing ( this my be a while).

For what it's worth I've got exactly the same set up as your (helmet, sena 10r) and wear the moulded ear plugs and have not had any problem hearing GPS/ music/ phone audio up to a robust speed in Europe including with the visor up on the auto route back in the summer.
