Brief history of my GS12, bought new in May 04;
Several early problems, the most serious of which was the failure of the final drive bearings at 4000 miles. BMW replaced all parts including the rear wheel and also threw in a new set of tyres as a goodwill gesture. Ok, the part should have lasted longer in the first place, but at the time I put it down to a set of bad bearings. As I was without my bike for almost a month awaiting parts, a free loan bike was arranged, plus £300 to spend on a weekend away.

Next to fail three months out of warranty was the LCD display, which just went black. At first my dealer said I was looking at a £500 replacement bill, but on contacting BMW it was replaced free of charge, again as a goodwill gesture.
Next, when the bike was two and a half years old, the rear drive bearings failed yet again, this time taking out the rear disc and caliper! The lateral play at the wheel rim was over half an inch.. Needless to say, the bike was trailered to my dealers.
BMW again agreed to foot the £1500 or so bill, and I had a very nice loan bike for a week while the repairs were carried out.
Finally, a few weeks ago, with the bike over three years old and after the 18,000 miles service, I noticed the dreaded geabox oil seeping through the engine/gearbox joint. My dealership said the cost to replace the seals would be over £350, mostly labour.
I wrote a letter to BMW stating that I expected a bike that was marketed as a round the globe bike should do just that, without the need for major surgery..
I have just recieved a letter from BMW customer service stating that they will pay for all parts needed, plus 50% of the labour. On top of that they will credit me with £500 towards the cost of a new bike as and when I decide to trade in.
All in all, I think BMW have gone the extra mile, and I may even buy another..

A shame you've had so many problems (major problems!) but as you say BMW really have looked after you.

Interesting (actually, disappointing from my point of view) that on the one hand they are will to spend so much on one customer (£300 holiday money, tyres, out of Warranty parts and labour) and yet do so little for another :-(

OK the circumstances are different, I've not had any failures.........but all I'm asking for is extended Warranty which may in the end cost them nothing :mad:

Well done you....good result :thumb
