several moons ago I replaced the gear box on a 2001 1150, cos the input brg is noisy. Now I am attempting to replace all the brgs in the old box (to keep as a spare).

In the clymer manual, to get the three main shafts out (the input, intermediate and the output) it states heat up the casing and withdraw the shafts. YEAH RIGHT. I suspect nothing short of a nuclear explosion is gonna shift the intermediate and output bearing from the casing. I have given the shafts a light tap (with a big f*****g hammer) and nowt moves.

Any fitters out there that can advise me, I could drill holes in the casing and drift the buggers out but before I resort to this I would appreciate advise.

Makes a change from deciding which oil to use (4 pages - come on).
Good do at the `Into the valley`

Im using a heat gun on the casing behind the bearings. It is getting bloody hot, I would expect the bearings to be fairly simple to remove. Surely they dont put loctite on the outers?
cheers

I don`t think a heatgun will be sufficient.

Most likely needs to be oven baked.

heat gun !!!! That won't even toast a slice a bread.

it's a big ali casing - and ali dissipates heat, so as fast as you heat up one area, the rest is cooling down. Also not a very good idea to only heat small areas.

thanks

:thumb2 thanks chaps, my mothers gone on holiday so i can use her oven
