Hi guys,

I have a 2016 R1200GS that will soon be out of warranty. Up until now I've been taking it to BMW for its servicing.
I'm thinking of keeping the bike long term and would like to save money on servicing by taking it to an independent motorcycle service centre.

Does anyone know of a reliable mechanic in Essex who will do everything listed on the official service schedule, i.e change the oil in the bevel gears and check the valve clearances when needed? I'd also want quality parts used and the service warning reset on the dash.

Any advice would be greatly received,

Dave

Take the Dartford crossing and go to Mark Holden. Not used him myself; bike's still under warranty... but chums with ancient Bavarian snotters do and rate him highly.

Not much choice in Essex these days, since Ollie Reid moved on from Chelmsford a few years back.

Biketech purport to cover BMW, but has anyone on here tried them? ......... https://www.biketechessex.co.uk/

Thanks for that, I called them and had a chat with the guy, I’m not convinced he’s that familiar with modern BMW’s. His prices are excellent but not sure the service would be as good as BMW.

Thank you, I’ll give them a call tomorrow

If you are prepared to travel outside Essex, why not use Steptoe of this parish?

Thanks for the info, I just spoke to the guy and he really knows his stuff. Sounds like the service you get is better than at BMW and a little cheaper too.

If you really want to save some dosh just buy a GS-911 it can do most of the things needed for your bike, it is not hard and will pay for itself once you have done a service or 2 by yourself, as for valve clearances, a few on here have the special tools to do that for the LC.

I’m very tempted to do my own servicing however after watching YouTube videos on valve clearances and ABS flushing I’m not so sure I’m up to it.
Most of the servicing schedule looks easily doable, wouldn’t fancy doing valve clearances or replacing brake fluid though.

Valve clearances on a Boxer engine are about as easy as it gets, paitence and a few feeler gauges and even I managed it.

It really is not hard, guy below done it for the first time, abs flush and bleeding.
