I just picked up an 1100 and the indicators are not working. Right and left are out and nothing happens when the hazard switch is pressed on. I checked the relay, and it seems fine. Any ideas what it could be.

I searched previous threads, but could not find one that all indicators where out.

Fuse

That's what I was wondering too.

Assuming the "ok relay" doesn't mean it's clicking away when the indicators are selected.

All fuses are intact, but I will replce the fuse for the indicators when I get home from work. The relay, I tried in my 1150 and it worked fine:confused:

I find it strange that all indicators are out and if it was a switch problem then to have left, right and hazards all not work:eek

1. Is it possible you wired up the relay incorrectly?
2. Water ingress into the relay or a contact point or the hazard switch itself? Hairdryer and/or contact cleaner...

Its most likely to be the 15a fuse

if you have tried to jump start the bike recently it will almost certainly knock this fuse out first.

Ok, replaced the 15a fuse, took the right hand switch gear apart and cleaned the contact points on all connectors with petrol ( no contact cleaner in the garage) and dried it all with a hairdryer.

Still nothing:blast

I knew that the bike had a few problems and was going to sort one out at a time. So just to let you know the full extent, in case they are related. Full beam does not work ( it may be just the bulb). ABS lights are flashing in unison ( both at the same time, could be that the ABS needs reset ) and the indicators do not work at all.

If I can get the indicators working at least I could take it for a spin:D
Thanks for the pointers guys, any help is appreciated. ( ohh and worth a pint on a meet :beerjug:

Thanks, Kanhulk, it could be the relay is not wired right, but I am hoping that is it at a last resort.:hack

Why don't you simply replace the bulb before your next post.....then you and we can have a clearer idea if they are related:blast
:D

It could be the instrument loom earths are corroded.

Cut back the outer sheath where it exits the instruments. You may find a wet green blob in the loom.

this is/was where the earths are crimped together unprotected, water gets in and they corrode/disintergrate and can cause instrument light/indicator problems.

:bounce1 Time to work on the bike is at an absolute minimum at the moment due to work.

I was wanting to do one job at a time rather than have a number of bits off the bike and then go :confused: what bit goes where, bloody screws are breeding

Ok as it is all back together, I will sort the beam out first and then do what Steptoe has said.

Cheers :thumb

one job at a time

1st, do bulb change see if it works
2nd check wiring as per steptoe
3rd, abs lights are more likely to be flat battery, you should hear a loud clunk when you set off, and as your lights are on,this is most like to be battery.

so one job at a time.

Thanks Elevensies, I changed the bulb and all is well. Next to dig out Steptoes terminal. With this in mind, when you cut back the sheathing to expose the wires what should be used to replace it.

As a belt and braces exercise, I also took the RH switch gear apart again and used contact cleaner on it. Still no joy

Many Thanks for the advice. :beerjug:
