Indicator relay

Sorry, not strictly a GS question though it could easily be. On me car the indicator relay is clicking away all the time (rapidly, like it would when one of the bulbs had gone), even though indicator switch is not activated. Indicators both work normally when activated. When not activated but with relay clicking, indicator lights are not flashing.
Any ideas? Relay kaput? Bad earth? All I know is it's bloody annoying

Check that your hazard light switch isn`t partly on,yet not on enough to make the hazards flash....

On the old ( PROPER ) Mini,this would totally disable the indicators....

I know because an interior clean resulted in a failed MOT...and the fault took hours to trace...I`d partially operated the hazard switch while polishing...
