I have an intermittent issue. Both sides flash too fast, but only intermittently. I have changed bulbs, checked bulb holders and wiring. I unsheathed and rewrapped rear loom. Fiddled with bulbs and wiring at indicators when flashing. Fuse box and relay visually ok and clean. Relay doesn't smell funny (burnt). Is it likely that the relay is faulty if it is an intermittent issue? Replacement relay seems a bit pricey to just 'give it a go'. I haven't checked the front loom, so it could still be that. Have I missed anything?

ind relay , controls both , common to both sides .
or
incorrect lamps fitted.
or something funny ( not ) going on with system voltage

Sounds like the relay is going bad, there’s a mod you can do to cut a small trace on the relay circuit board which fixes the fast indicator. I have an led rear light fitted to my 1100 so also have the fast indicators but doesn’t really bother me so I’ve left it alone, anyway it’s a BMW so who uses the indicators 🤣

It's been for an MOT test today and fast flashing indicators are listed as a 'minor defect'.
I'll see if I can try another relay and see if that makes a difference. It is difficult to diagnose. I couldn't get it to 'misbehave' last night, but first thing today, it's flashing too quickly again.
