Indicator switch

I'd be prepared to pay extra to have the BMW style indicator switches, as an option, instead of the Jap style indicator switches.

Come on BMW, give us the choice !!! Pretty please.

Can't get fairer than that can you.

I can't think that it would be to difficult to retro fit the three way indicator system.
Personally I love this system and if I do purchase a WC I'll be giving this option some close scrutiny

The 2013 R1200GS is only my second bike, I had a Tiger 800 before, so the indicator switches are ok for me.
However even before the 1st service and after the first bath, all the buttons on the left side stopped working. The wash was in a Saturday evening and the buttons stopped working in a drive on Sunday.
I went to the dealer on Tuesday and they only started working inside the garage without they doing nothing.

Anyway I left the complain so they send the spare part to change, which hasn't been done yet.

The BMW 3 button system is quirky but learnt quickly enough, however a single button operated with one's thumb on the left bar is a better solution - having to cancel the indicators with the throttle hand is not ideal for obvious reasons.

Apart from the inferior ergonomics, three buttons have got to be more expensive to implement than one button.

at last they see sense - the right hand is busy enough with all of the "go" and most of the "stop" without having to do 2/3 of the indicator work while the left hand takes time off.

Exactly!
As I have said before in numerous discussions with BMW owners, if you ride a bike with some instant response to throttle movement e.g. my K1200R, operating the cancel paddle in traffic was dangerous because the bike reacted so quickly to any small throttle movement caused by reaching for the paddle. I changed the wiring of the horn and cancel paddle over to solve this.
The previous GSs didn't have the same reaction to small throttle tweaks so probably operating the cancel paddle was ok and everything seemed fine. The latest GS is more like the K in this respect, especially in Dynamic mode, so I'm really pleased with the single indicator button.

Self Cancelling?

According to the handbook, the indicators are supposed to be self cancelling?
Didn't notice mine cancelling while waiting in a queue at a junction or are they cleverer than that?
Is it just a timer or do they need some other feedback from the bike before cancelling?:nenau

You need to be moving for them to self cancel, they cancel after about 100 metres.

+1 on that. If you offer 3 button indicators I'll have one. If you don't, I won't.

Big buttons

I tried an LC a few weeks ago, from a solidly planted GSA with big indicator buttons that I can use with winter gloves
Verses..
quite small jap position switch was not as good as I was expecting, (even though I hated the BMW indicators originally) although they have made the button quite raised from the switch assy...

I was thinking to myself on way from test ride...

A backward move..

Just picked mine up. Not sure what the problem is... prefer the 3 switch set up myself but mine works fine, easy to find etc...though am using sport gloves.
