Hi all,

I'm stumped by my indicators.

Both rear indicators flash whether I'm indicating left or right. The front ones work the way they should.

I thought there was an issue within the red plug where the power is split as the rears would flash normally when bending the wires coming out of the plug, so I connected them directly. When doing the testing I was not looking at the indicator light in the dash...

I'm thinking that it is something to do with the indicator light in the dash, some sort of current leak. Is that possible or common?

Or does someone have an idea?

It's on my R100 GS PD 1990.

It would seem that the live L/R feeds from the flasher unit to the bulbs have been shorted together. It could be anywhere from the flasher unit to where the loom splits at the back to feed the individual indicators. My guess is the blue plug for the rear sub-loom has been compromised somehow (water? bit of conducting contamination? fretting leading to shorting?) who knows. Close inspection required. Outside chance it is the flasher unit itself or its connector. I've never heard of this happening to anyone else. I wouldn't think the dash bulb is at fault.

Done any work recently that affect the rear loom?

FYI the rear loom is still available new. I have a spare one which had been scotch-locked but is still functioning should you need something to test with.

Hi,

That was my thought initially but the rear loom is new, and there is current coming at the blue plug on both indicators instead of just one.

I will disconnect the dash indicator light and see whether it makes a difference.

I hate electrics.

It has the left/right switch on the left hand side. The relay is brand new and is the type that accepts led bulbs without the need for resistors.

Considering the fronts work fine, I'm going to try and undo the loom from the back plug, see if the wires insulation has not frayed somewhere.
