I always like to see helpful comments, as above (sarcasm).

OK -hangman - Page 60 in my handbook says:-

"after approx 10 secs or approx 200 metres" they self-cancel.

If you judge your turns right you can make them go off just as you complete your manouvre, useful for my arthritic thumb.

cheers Phil

Guess there is no point me buying a haynes manual

if i can't even read the manual

many thanks for all the help

Self cancelling indicators

I rode my 1200GS for about two years without knowing that they were self cancelling - and no, there was nothing about it in the (French) handbook. I found out eventually from this forum! Now, I ask myself, did any of my former bikes have selfcancelling indicators, (1150GS, 1100R or the K100RS) ? I remember my R100RS used to bleep noisily until I swithched off. A friend had an 1150R, just replaced by the 1200R and he isn't sure!
I suppose we were 'brought up' to be very much aware of the dangers of indicators left flashing.

My 1990 K100RS16V definitely has self cancelling blinkinglichtentickentocken. Before that I had non ABS K100's (RS, LT, & RT) and really can't remember if they had self-cancel. I think maybe it came in with the first ABS system???

How can you go for two years without noticing that they switch themselves off ? I'm intrigued - how many miles done in that time?

Hangman, there's hope for you yet - it's only taken you, what - a month or two? :) :) :) :)

Dahoum - where do you you get this "above a certain speed" from? - there's nowt in the handbook about it. I ask 'cos sometimes they do seem to stay on for longer than I expect, usually in traffic, and I put it down to my imagination, and I don't like not knowing what's going on.

Quite simple

"How can you go for two years without noticing that they switch themselves off ? I'm intrigued - how many miles done in that time?"
Because you have brain washed yourself to be aware that your indicators are working and you cannot relax again until they are off; (Of course it could be that i forgot a few times but never realised it!)
How many miles - not too many - 10,000 kms, but with a great deal of indicator use on the busy autoroute between here and Lyon.
