I've just got bike insurance in the UK for the first time in 4 yrs. Are Bennetts alone in requesting lots of documentation (like they did in France) ? Copy of licence, DVLA check code, copy of Log Book, proof of NCD and proof of address. I have no issue with this at all by the way, it made perfect sense when I was asked for the stuff in France.

I do not get this. If you register with someone like Clearscore or Credit Karma, you will be able to see your UK credit file. You will note a load of soft searches as brokers check you exist on the system. They like to match you to an address and check if you are on the electoral roll. If your profile is immature, such as returning to the UK so a big gap in data, they might ask for info to verify your identity.
I noticed my insurance premiums increase a bit when I moved here in 2023. There was a gap of a few months where I was not on the electoral roll. It's all settled down now and my premiums are back to similar rates as I had at the old place.

None of this is a usual requirement , can only assume that you haven't been resident in the UK for a while and not held a UK insurance policy .

In this case then probably due to fraud prevention by someone who had been living abroad saying they have been insured abroad and to ensure that the bike is also theirs (UK registered ) and they have it registered to a corresponding UK address

Yes...moved back from France in April. We have been UK taxpayers throughout our time in France. It actually makes sense to at least verify your licence by an ins co.
