Hi guys, Ive just purchased a Garmin streetpilot 3 and was wondering as it comes with a 128mb card how much info will i get onto the card. IE. will i get the whole of the uk road network onto it. I want it mainly as a backup for when i'm off exploring side roads and farm tracks should i loose my way. :thumb

Depends on what version of City select do you have, but a quick answer would be no.

V7 will give you all of the UK, incl NI, but without routing - 104.3mb (this means you can't get the GPS to calculate a route for you)

Include routing and it goes up to 155.4mb and the GPS can do your routing for you, but that's no use as you can't fit it all on..................

The most I could get, with routing (which you really would want if possible), is the following..............

Ask yourself realistically how much of the UK do you need on all the time?

If definitely all of the UK, a 256mb card would be the way forward............

I don't agree. The SP3 is OK when purchased at the right price and used as is. If you need more memory or a map update you get much more value for the money by buying a SP2610.

That should have read "could" instead of "should".

I was assuming he didn't want to buy a new unit...............

I'd also wedge out for a 2610 with a 2 gig card , but he might have a budget..........

I've had a SP3 for several years now and have found it necessary, over the years, to buy 3 x 256mb and 2 x 128mb data cards. That's because the V8 mapping has so much info that, to go around Europe, you need a lot of memory.
Also, my advice is....don't try to calculate routes on the GPSR itself. It'll take for ever because the processor is so slow. What I always do is calculate the route(s) on a PC or laptop and transfer it complete to the SP3. That way the SP3 is an adequate unit.

Howard,

Is there any cards available for the SP3 that are less expensive than Garmin's own ? I have a route to plan that will take up much more than my 128 mb card but Garmin's are very expensive.
