Northumberland 250 - A Northumberland Road Trip
A 250-mile adventure road trip across the land of dark skies, rolling hills and exquisite coastline.
This is very much distant lands for me.
I had hoped to do a reconnaissance ride or drive around the route, but circumstances (notably the now unavailability of my co-pilot) to see what’s what. I would therefore like, if possible, to have some suggestions, which I can then check-out by ‘nipping-up’ and checking them out, saving myself some tyre rubber in the process.
What I am looking for please is three, four or even five good quality hotels or pubs (offering decent food and beer) near enough equally spaced around the route, probably starting in or around Newcastle or Alnwick, as we’d be coming up from London. I don’t know why, but I think the way we’d go is anti-clockwise. The only must-do, I have pencilled in are the sights along the NE coast, including Holy Island, so I’d be happy with a two-nighter somewhere sensible in that NE segment. I’d also like to take in one of the more impressive castles.
I’ll probably need say five to seven mixed sized, single, double or twin rooms along with the ability to book dinner in the evening, though this is less important in Newcastle, where decent restaurants sem to drop off the shelf.
Price? Is not a sole key driver per-se but, of course, if people know of a ‘bargain, sing up, please.
Important: Parking for six or so pretty nice cars. It needn’t be garaged.
Many thanks, in advance.
Richard
