This is very much distant lands for me.

I had hoped to do a reconnaissance ride or drive around the route, but circumstances (notably the now unavailability of my co-pilot) to see what’s what. I would therefore like, if possible, to have some suggestions, which I can then check-out by ‘nipping-up’ and checking them out, saving myself some tyre rubber in the process.

What I am looking for please is three, four or even five good quality hotels or pubs (offering decent food and beer) near enough equally spaced around the route, probably starting in or around Newcastle or Alnwick, as we’d be coming up from London. I don’t know why, but I think the way we’d go is anti-clockwise. The only must-do, I have pencilled in are the sights along the NE coast, including Holy Island, so I’d be happy with a two-nighter somewhere sensible in that NE segment. I’d also like to take in one of the more impressive castles.

I’ll probably need say five to seven mixed sized, single, double or twin rooms along with the ability to book dinner in the evening, though this is less important in Newcastle, where decent restaurants sem to drop off the shelf.

Price? Is not a sole key driver per-se but, of course, if people know of a ‘bargain, sing up, please.

Important: Parking for six or so pretty nice cars. It needn’t be garaged.

Many thanks, in advance.

Richard

Well I can recommend the food here. I haven't stayed as it's only 100 metres from my house.

Right next door (literally) is this; but they don't do food anymore (not even breakfast).

in Haltwhistle, at the SW corner of the route https://www.centreofbritain.co.uk/the-hotel near Once Brewed on this map of the route

but was not killed. Being a sycamore, if you chop its head off, it regrows several more like a hydra

The local news have reported that it is developing a shoot so in another two hundred years it may be back.

The trial of the two suspected perps is happening at Newcastle Crown Court.

The hotel Micky stays at in Moffat (forget the name but in his recent ride report)might be worth considering for a night - not on the route but not too far off it with great roads to/,from. Know a few who have used it & all said it was great.

I may be being pernickety but htf can anywhere that doesn’t do breakfast claim to be a bed and breakfast?

I stayed in Seahouses some years back, but that was a scuba diving bunkhouse, so perhaps not what is required. I didn’t stay, but do recall that I had thought it was worth staying at a castle in Hexham, I think this is the place, but it was years ago https://www.langleycastle.co.uk/en/

I stayed in the Copthorne in Newcastle years back too. Some decent bars and eateries within a short walk.

Hard to beat The Buccleuch Arms Hotel in Moffat your route is very doable from there and the place is set up for motorcyclists. I've stayed there four times in recent years and haven't been disappointed Lots of nice single track moorland roads in the vicinity to explore (ideal for a Himalayan) and handy enough to Kielder and the east coast. Seven of us are off to stay there again on the 24th to 27th of September.

Playing on the dirt road through Kielder last year. Not very adventure I did it on a BMW R1200RT one year and on a Honda CB900F2C......about 40 years ago :D

Well he's my next door neighbour and they are winding down a bit - with Michelangelo's being next door they thought they could cut back.

Would that be the Farne Diving Lodge in Seahouses?

Spent many weekends there.

Langley Castle is good too - the staff were a bit Goth when I stayed :D :D :D

Farne diving, I guess so. Nice bloke, Stan? he owned a wreck, and some kind of landing craft-infantry which we dived off. I don’t recall it having the drop front of a typical LC. I’d have to dig out the log books.

Theres a hotel called the Plough In YetHolm

Yes behind a locked gate, and little tin Garages that you can rent if you don't want your precious to get wet :D
I’ll ask again, does it have off road CAR parking ?

Just noticed, I was trying to help with good quality stuff, but Richard is looking for something on an altogether higher plane.

Not for cars but there is loads of FREE carparking outside the Hotel. Moffet has a very wide double main street.
