A friend of mine is interested in a useable modernish classic and was asking me about an R90/S he’d spotted. This one…..https://misukltd.com/vehicle/bmw-r90-r90s-black-grey-in-newark-nottinghamshire-84cd1bde-4a1c-4f6e-8183-2527825f0b31

I know nothing about them but said I’d ask here. I also steered him at Gelandstrase’s bike that he’s advertising.

So, anything he needs to know about when considering or looking at an R90/S He’s got a KH400 that he really likes and fairly recently sold a 1976 Z1000 so he’s fairly familiar with older bikes. He does very few miles on them - sunny days to Rykas which is literally round the corner from where he lives, Newlands corner, or other such places in Surrey or Sussex. If he does more than 1000 a year between two bikes it would be a lot.

Also any experience of that MISUK Ltd dealership.? I thought the advert looked well fishy with what appears to be library pictures but my mate says he’s had close ups and a video.

Thank you.

If I could be so bold as to point your friend at my R80st special advert…
I’m in Surrey, so not too far if he wants to take a look

Thanks Bubb. I had a long hard look at your bike back in May. I owned an R80ST back in the 80s and wouldn’t mind another one cluttering up my garage again. But I’ve got a Guzzi Griso doing that and I’m not ready to move that on yet. My mate has done deal on Gelandstrasse’s R90s and is picking it up on Monday. He’s in for a challenge riding an old shaft drive airhead for only the second time ever. Last time was my R80ST!!

Glwts.

I’m sure he will love Tim’s r90s.

I like mine and it brings a smile on my face only the 50-year-old motorcycle can in that they still go relatively well but not as well as a Japanese and it takes a bit more effort to do so. The one you’re looking at looks so well sorted, but if I didn’t have one, I may consider buying it myself

First BMW I ever rode and an absolute revelation back in 1976. Fast enough, torquey enough and a decent turn of acceleration with those pumper carbs. Handlebar controls which really did fall readily to hand (to use the old cliché) and a paint job to die for.

He'll love it! (Remember to preload the gear lever when changing gear.)

Thanks chaps.

I can confirm my friend successfully rode Gelendstrasse’s R90S about 100miles home and facetime’d me immediately. He was very happy with it. It’s a beautiful thing. I know he’s been out around the Surrey hills a few times as he keeps sending me pics. I think he’s gelling with it.
