Some of you will know this one, but it was new to me. The single track road from Ingleton (Marton) to Dent. Narrow, bumpy, gravelly, but spectacular views and NO traffic. Combine it with Dent Station/Garsdale Head road and you've got an interesting route from Ingleton to Hawes.

There are four gates, so a pillion might be handy and there's even a handy swimmimg pond...

You're not wrong there! Same with the Dent Station road, in particular one crest with a right hand bend just after...

The school I went to (the same one as Indecisive of this parish) had a house in Dent. I spent a very happy week there when I was 13 and a couple of very unhappy weeks there pre-season rugby training! We used to train at Sedbergh school and on the last day, run back to Dent.

Went back a few years ago for a stag weekend - visited the brewery :thumb

Okay Stevie... your camera beats my crappy phone! Interesting road though, and I only found it after a random turn in Ingleton. Just the way all the best roads are found.

I think we've walked part of it when doing the "Waterfall Walk", but never ridden it. There again, the Ingleton - Ribblehead - Hawes road is one of the best biking roads in the UK, so I haven't felt the urge to find an alternative :D

Might have to give it a whirl as Trudi loves exploring the backlanes now we've got a GS

We were over there a couple of weeks ago on the same road, it was the 1st time for me but not the last:thumb2

Damn, you found it !

It's called "Kingsdale" ... Very nice stretch of road and a couple of lovely spots for a picnic on a sunny day. :augie

There is an interesting gate part way along - on a downhill - so makes parking up and jumping off a bit tricky!

ingleto to dent

well im the lucky one as i actually live and work in ingleton.
the kingsdale road is known locally as the gated road for obvious reasons, at the start of the road the wee hamlet is called thornton in lonsdale, the pub on the corner is called the marton arms and is a cracking boozer, often has upto 15/20 real ales and over 100 different whiskey,s and relaxed hours! the road over past dent st is known as the coal road and is a little gem, not far from the dent side there is a pub called the sportsmans arms another brill boozer and the landlord is a keen biker. there,s even a campsite over the road, was only£2 per night last time i used it need to use the pub bogs though.
as nice as the hawes road is,there are lots of quiet back roads that the sports bike riders dont know exist.
maybe one day ill share some lcal knowledge with you.

may well do mort owd lad, maybe later in the year.
i organised a one for some mates a while back and the landlord put on a bbq for us, ill look into it.

Thanks for the tip - we rode this road yesterday and it was good exercise for SWMBO having to get off and open the gates :augie

The descent on the Dent side had spectacular views which our camera didn't do justice to :bow

the last gate on the dent side is a bitch if you're on your own - very steep right up to the gate and too narrow to turn. Parked my bike and yes it fell over :blast.

next timne if on my own I might simply wait as long as it takes for someone else to come through !

overall its a great ride but be warned !

As an alternative, try the road from Barbon/Casterton (near Devil's Bridge) to Gawthrop (Dent). Just as quiet and scenic, but no gates. And fewer launch ramps... but that might just be cos it was raining earlier.
