Hi to all, I`m new to this section and only yesterday I became the proud owner of a spanking new F800 Adv!

I`m a huge fan of my beloved R1200GSA and the new LC but only after 30 miles I was very well impressed. On knobblies so I had to take it easy but even then a cracking bike, felt very light compared to the 12 and IMHO might be a better bike (now that they seem to have made some improvements) for touring and off road adventures than the heavier 12 - I`m in my 50`s now and a fully loaded 12 could be somewhat eye watering to lift up!

The improvements seem to be a larger tank (which is brill), taller screen (which is brill) so that's good!

anyway, seemingly a brill bike and I look forward to many happy hours - `owt I should be aware of as an F newbie?

Btw is it supposed to come with a basic toolkit :nenau

Welcome to the bright side! You'd better hide your pipe and slippers over here.

It's good to hear you're enjoying the 800, a great bike that's been improved. Yes, toolkit is very basic (one spanner, one screwdriver plus a spare torx bit for the screwdriver). Here's hoping you don't need any more.

Mark Hooton ......

It should be elasticed to the underside of the seat :hide :blast

The F series bikes are very under rated. Just so easy to ride :D and as one mag said .....go round the world on a tea spoon of fuel :D:thumby:

Just get out there and enjoy :aidan

I love my Boggo F800GS, they hadn't invented the Adv version when I bought mine. 10,000 great miles and counting.

Only disappointment was the headstock bearings were replaced at 5600 m, they were done under warranty so that helps. Just worried it might be time for another set:eek:

I can't say I'm enthused by the new colour choices, so my Lava Orange one won't be replaced in the foreseeable.

Happy safe riding

Unlike the 1200, these seem to be very reliable!!!!!

Very funny - never thought I would see a post like that!

Yes tbh the 12's have had their fair share yet also to be entirely fair I don't here anything bad about the F and reliability so that's great.

It's a very 'busy' engine to look at that for sure but the mpg seems astounding. Not sure about the handling - I'm still nervous - but mebbe that's the knobbliest eh?

It certainly seems more capable off road :D

Thanks for that - seemingly the dealer forgot to put the toolkit on!

Yes I already feel that it's underrated and I hope to have my first green laning adventures on it

Thanks for that - I suspect your bearings were a one off. One thing for sure - it's not a bike for farkling (I do fool about with farkling for the 12) and anything made for it has to, I suspect, have a very purposeful job. No shiny heavy stainless for this bike methinks!

I'm sure you can find something for it to justify the tax break!:rob:blagblah:D

Ha hi nuts how ya doing? You are like a bloody STD :D

But seriously, it's not a beloved 12 but I can see the appeal - I haven't had time to take a look at it (too busy making a deflector for you :D) but it does seem a more purposeful machine. I wouldn't dream of taking my LC off road but I would this!

Anyway hope ya ok

Hope to see you on Saturday mate :thumb

Early F8's had a chain issue but that seems to be history.

Head stock bearings and wheel bearings seem to be common issues, a lot of reported failures on Advrider.com as well.

I did an Alaska trip last year and one of the guys in the group was on an F8GS. He had a fuel pump issue for the second time, the first failure was on a RTW trip in '09.

Last year he took out the pump, wacked it on the concrete floor, refitted and it did the rest of the trip, probably over 7,000 miles.

I like stories like that.:thumb I don't think I'll be doing that with the WC!:comfort:P
