Collected my new GS (base model) yesterday afternoon from Vines in Redhill. Great team and highly recommended.

Fifty mile round-robin ride back to Tonbridge, Kent in the cold temperatures but what a machine. A quantum leap compared to my original R1200GS and the engine is in a different league. The breathless, agricultural, air cooled mill has been replaced with an urgent, free revving torque monster. Even the seat is comfier than the church pew it replaces and the increase in power is a revelation. Also, considerably more agile and flickable with no hint of instability. Build quality has also improved throughout. BMW have certainly done their homework on this bike and it shows.

It’s always a big risk ordering a new model before it’s officially released but I have to say it’s paid off. With the speculation ricocheting around the press I can honestly say this is a sound bike and any negativity can be dispelled.

So, if you were feeling slightly sceptical in purchasing the new GS then there’s no need to worry, just go for it, you won’t be disappointed.

Well, you've convinced yourself. The more I read the more I'm thinking of sticking with my breathless, 100bhp, 66,000 mile air/oil cooled anachronism.

Enjoy.

You made this huge assessment in a 50 mile ride, you have further convinced yourself that build quality is measured in days.... Now put it back in the garage and don't ride it for a year till the adventure bike arrives and trumps this one...:)

build quality?the one i looked at in vines today had weld splatter on nearside top frame/engine mount, and the top rear shock mount hole on the offside lacked any paint on the inside.not knocking it to much but i dont think the build quality matches the previous bike imo.

I find this recurring comment about build quality a bit strange - I've looked at one in Vines and it looks the same as the other new bikes in the showroom - including the GSA

yup in 50 miles

Yup that's all it will take.

The bike so much better in EVERY respect.

The engine a peach, the handling superb, the build quality well who knows but I for one can't*belive*it would get worse.

I'm now at 550 miles Gav it's a great bike.

People trol your post are Jealous mate thats the long and short of it.

It's great to be enthusiastic about our fantastic new bike.

Can't understand why people Have to trol the LC posts.

who is trolling then,a comment was made about how much better the build quality was,i disagree is that ok with you?

btw if you like the bike good for you but dont get the hump when you lc lot start posting about how many sleeps and red is the fastest etc and you get the piss taken

jealous? no sorry,if i wanted one i would get one.this jealous thing crops up every time some one does not agree a new lc owner, ffs

Ignore the twats on here, the LC is epic:thumb ENJOY!!!

Gents... all I wished to share is my enthusiasm for this bike, nothing more. Go and have a test ride, then come back and tell us all what you think.

New w/c

The new bike is good but
It's just like a triumph explorer!!!even got the same wheels
It's lost it quirkiness now and is very plasticky
It is faster though and handles well
The clocks are hard to see with the glare from the light .
It's streets ahead of the outgoing Gs but not a patch on the GSA
Oh and it sounds like a bag of spanners on tick over

Just my opinion

ive got a ride booked and am looking forward to it,my point is you ridden it for 50 moles and say build quality has improved throughout.
