After adjusting my valve clearances (1000 miles ago) I've been experiencing vibration. This was sorted this weekend with the help of vacuum gauges (I know....should've done it sooner  ). The difference is incredible and well worth the investment in gauges.

I'll be keeping the inlets balanced on a regular basis from now on.

I have seen on some GSs the 'vacuum hose stubs' of the inlets connected by a balance pipe. This would seem an ideal way of keeping things balanced, but there's something in my memory about it being bad practice.

So, is there anything to be gained from doing this?

or will it cause damage to the bike?

I tried this a while ago, and I could hardly tell the difference. My guess is a well balanced engine could benifit a little from an inlet balance hose. To smooth things out a little.

But once an engine is really out of sync, no balance hose will cure it.
