My first n00b question!

Does anyone know the inner dimensions of the topbox and panniers?

I'm wondering if a laptop computer would fit in either the topbox or one of the panniers. The panniers on the bike are Genuine BMW ones but other than that I'm not sure what they are.

GSA or vanilla GS panniers?

If a GSA, will a laptop fit? Almost certainly yes.

If a vanilla GS a guarded yes..... depending on how big your laptop is and what other tat you want to include along with it.

Why not stroll to your local BuMW dealer and offer your laptop up to one or more of their panniers?

My BM panniers & top box will definitely take my Dell Latitude laptop ... in the top box that's either laying flat or stood on edge...

Thanks for the replies guys. I think the panniers are the Vario style.

Unfortunately my local BMW garage (Aberdeen) is no longer a Mottorad dealer, therefore my nearest dealer to me is Inverness, about 100 miles away.

My works laptop is a Dell Lattitude D630, so if it fits in the top box or panniers I can see me taking my new bike to work a lot!

Be aware you'll probably have to isolate it from the vibrations to stop the hard drive and possibly the screen from being trashed. Anyone have any thoughts or experience of this?

Kriega do a neoprene bag for a 17 inch laptop which would help but failing that I'd wrap it up in a very thick towel :thumb

I've carried a 17 inch laptop in my Kriega R20 rucksack with no issues :D

Another way of finding out!

The top box is about 37 x 29 x 23 deep - but there are a few bits sticking out etc.. You say "... my nearest dealer to me is Inverness, about 100 miles away." but my top-box is in the garage just underneath my office - so tell me the size of your lap top and I will tell you if it would fit into the top-box or panniers.

Looks like a Dell Latitude D630 will just fit!

33.7 x 23.8 x 3.2 cm

i carry my laptop in my touratech zega panniers.
Have lined them both out with a cut up 2 quid ebay sponge camping mat (double sided tape) and it works a treat. Also stops the alu dusting marks on everything you put in.:blagblah

A guy in our office has just destroyed his second laptop by commuting (40 mile round trip) with it in a pannier on his Transalp. In each case the hard drive packed in. He's been asked to look at alternative ways of transporting his computer.

A waterproof padded rucksack type laptop bag is the best way to transport them - your body is a good shock absorber. But then you get into the safety aspects of rucksacks and bikes....

Note to self...

Laptop in topbox (eventually) = new laptop from work! :type :clap
