Again probably a silly question but.

I am fitting Heavy Duty tube to my front and it has two nuts and a washer on the valve stem.

Assume the washer goes inside and both nuts on the outside ? or does one nut go inside the rim? If so won't that make the tube stand proud off the rim by the valve stem.

I'm sure I used to know all this stuff 20 years ago when I was spannering my bikes all the time but I seem to have forgotten everything, having been soft over the last few years and getting the dealer to do everything!

i usually take both nuts off and lob them. i seldom use a nut on the outside of the rim, and never tighten them more than finger tight if i do.

Yes only do the nut up half way as if you have not got rim locks fitted you have movement on the valve if the tyre slips. If you do it up tight and you get tyre slip your valve will rip off.:beerjug:

I leave one nut tight up against the washer on the tube, the other I tighten against the valve cap.

This is a very timely thread, I just got some HD tubes this morning and was wondering the exact same thing.

Mark,

I assume the nut and washer on the tube are inside the rim??

I'm a complete novice with tubes.
