My K7 unit has failed at 15months,

I contacted innov as to what to do, and got a reply from innov tom

asking me to remove the whole unit cameras, mic, & gps unit and send to a random address in china at a value of £10 to avoid customs charges for "Testing"

Ive politley told them to do one , and gone back to Innov UK to see what they say

anyone else had issues with dealing with Innov

My first set of cameras a few years ago failed, they said it was the little control unit box and I said i'd purchase another if they would accept the return if this was not the fault. They declined.

Yes, I had a camera fail on a K7 unit after about 15 months.
The symptoms were it would stop recording anything after a few minutes, this was indicated by the camera LED on the remote control flashing on/off about every second.
I found that if I pressed and held the button on the remote control button for about 10 seconds, until all the LEDs went off, it reset the recorder, after which it started recording for the rest of that ride. when I switched off the bike and started my journey again the same happened again, resetting the unit caused it to start recording normally again.
When I got home and inspected the files I noted that after the reset only one camera was recording, this gave me a clue that it was a faulty camera. I connected the camera that was working to the other channel on the Recorder unit to verify it was the camera that was faulty and not the camera channel on the recorder.

During the fault investigation the button on the Remote Control stuck in without me realising, the system kept rebooting every 10 seconds or so. Fiddling with the button made it pop out and it worked fine thereafter.

I sent a detailed report to Innovv proving the camera was faulty, and I also mentioned the now fixed sticky button on the Remote. It was Tom (in China) that responded to me, they sent me both a new camera and remote control, they arrived in about a week, they didn't want the old parts back.

If you need any help finding the fault, PM me the symptoms and I'll try to give some suggestions on what checks to do.

Ah .. and there I am looking at an Innov K7 from "A Bike thing" Is the K7 an "old" model or are you chaps just unlucky ? I am very un technical so this would be a problem for me.

I would say we've been unlucky I know quite a few who've had Innovv cameras and they've not had any issues. Also, I believe all the fleet bikes (about 16) with my local blood bike group have them fitted and, as far as I'm aware, they've not had any issues.

Symptom

It's dead. No lights on the indicator block/ button thing

Reset doesn't do anything

Thoughts

I'd say deader than a dead thing

Ghost HD - bought in 2013 I think it was- still going strong some 13 years on!
Proof that some new kit isn't always better kit. The only spare I needed was a new rear cover as the rubber mini usb cover had broken off.
p.s Yes Santa- it's Sehr kaputt

Our blood bike group had 4 K3 cameras, everyone had issues, ranging from trashing the memory card to having to replace the power pack jobber. I have read on the net of some people having issues with the K7. There was no help from Innov for any of the issues, we had to buy spare parts. I had a K3 setup on my bike for a few years, I had to replace the memory card and a power supply.

I can only say that I had no issues with getting help/replacements from Innovv.
A friend of mine had a faulty 'switched live' cable/connector, they sent one out PDQ.

Oh dear, it does sound like it could be terminal, probably the recorder unit faulty.
However, it would be worth checking that the main power supply is connected OK and the same with the switched live and check the fuses (assuming you haven't done this already).
Failing that, I can only suggest removing the whole system and connect it up off the bike to bench test it. :nenau

I would have thought they would send you a replacement Recorder if you can demonstrate it is that it must be faulty, e.g. the power is present but no indicators lit on the Remote, unable to see the WiFi signal from it on your phone, should be sufficient to demonstrate the Recorder is dead.

My thoughts exactly,

i will grab a battery from the shed, and bench test tommorow

Good luck, I hope you make some headway with it and you get a good a service as I did.
Keep us updated.
I'm going to see if it powers up with the controll unit not connected, if it does, thats a start

i dont really want the hassle of sending it back to China on a low ball customs declaration ( which Mrs Santa tells me isnt strictly legal lol ;) )

Lets see what innov UK say

Good thinking, you could even leave everything except the power and switched live unconnected and see if you can see the unit's WiFi signal, then build it up from there. Any one of them could a a fault which is sinking all the power of the Recorder.
Regarding the value for customs declaration, it could be argued that as the system is faulty it has no value. :nenau

So tried everything,

got some lights on the control switch,

Camera and GPS but no wifi

Tried doing 12v only , switched live only, cameras connected - reconnected

I can get the unit to reset, and restart, but no wifi, so i cant tell if its recording anything

its as they say ---- dead

It is looking like a recorder fault. I would suggest detailing what you've done in an email and see what they say. They may come back with further tests, with a bit of luck they'll send a new recorder.
