Hi, have any of you got any views or experience of the single bike trailer (assemble without tools/as used by the AA etc), at the following link.

i.e. Will it handle well with a GS on board, behave over 100's or 1000's of miles loaded, or is it intended as a get you home type item?

Your opinions would be appreciated

my local bike repairer uses one of these, swears by it, won't lend it to anyone, looks sturdy enough

Saw one in action..

A couple of years back now, i sore a very similar item being used to deliver a recovered bike to A&D's motorcycles in Dembigh, by a recovery van.

The design was not the same. But at the time i asked a lot of the same questions as above on here..

They seem to all basically be a pin lock system.. for holding it togather..
And they take upto 400kg of weigh.. and if the photo shows a hyabusa on it, then it "should" take a .. BUT the GS is far taller, so you would want some good side straps and tieing down points near to the wheels/cross braces.

I cant see why you couldnt travel with one of these for a few thousand miles as long as you checked the pins etc.. i know there are caravenette owners who have similar folding trailers for taking bikes with them.. on their trips.

£420.. ( doesnt say if inc vat or pnp) is i guess not too bad.. nice it was closer to £300..but hey.. thats life..

Seen several (or ones very similar) on track days. All seem OK.

It is still 99% certain that you will need a second person to help you load the bike on.

Whats the benifit of it being dismantelable, other than for storing at home when it's not being used?

£300 is a great idea. Who has the balls to ask him if he will do a 'group buy' for the GSers and we might get a load of them for OUR price!

I knew the pool of collective wisdom and experience would come to the rescue.

The price currently includes VAT, but spare wheel/tail board etc come as extras at £25-£40 per item.

I have asked about the discount, and if club members make themselves known to him he will to do something on price or extras.

Whats the benifit of it being dismantelable, other than for storing at home when it's not being used?

So that you can travel to where the bike is, at normal speeds, without an empty trailer bouncing around all over the road behind you.

So usefull for someone who buys a lot of bikes and has to pick them up or someone who does bike recovery.

Not really that usefull for your average biker who buys at most one bike a year and always starts his journey from the same place as his bike

But..

Also usefull for the biker who likes to be able to take his bike in for service on a trailer, drop it off and leave it to be worked on then collected at the end without having to take time off to return/retrieve a loan bike..

And also very usefull to loan to mates who havent got a trailer.. and to revoer bike if you have problems ( not that, that ever happens on a GS )..

And also bloody usefull if you havent got the space to store a full trailer.. however it does appear from th epics and the volvo towing vehicle you would need a pretty big boot to get it into even when apart..lol.

My local garages are a min of 37 miles away.. for me personally being able to take the bike in on a trailer and drop it off for work over a week then pick it up again on the following sat would save holiday time off work.. and getting lifts off friends....

The GS fits fine, AA relayed mine last week not problems, was solid as a rock and it was taken 30 miles though smoe nice twisty roads, great bit of kit.

Thats so you can carry it on your Boxer. Then you only need somebody with a tow bar to get you home. Ouch Im a bitch
