Morning all,

Today’s job is installing the outer/rear input shaft seal.

Firstly, am I right in thinking it goes ‘spring side’ inwards, with the ‘flat’ side facing the clutch slave cylinder?

So, this side ‘inwards’…

And this side ‘outwards’ towards the slave cylinder…

I have a deep socket marked with the depth the old one was installed to, which I can use to aid installation. Has anyone got any advice or tips - I don’t want to get this wrong!

Can I use a thin smear of silicone grease or gearbox oil to aid installation at all?

Cheers
Mike

That’s the correct way around.. suitable sized deep socket, as you mentioned.
I’ve always put then in dry. Make sure the lip on the seal doesn’t get “turned” when installing.

Thanks Steptoe.

How do I check if the lip has turned? Start it off then check to see if it looks deformed at all?
