My Garmin will not connect to my PC nor will it connect to my traffic master which proves that there is summat wrong with the mini USB connection possibly done when the dam thing dropped out of my topbox

I have taken the back off and I think I have found what is wrong but before I attack it with a soldering iron I thought I would check out for a second opinion seeing as Garmin want about 170 quid to exchange it.

The way that the usb connects to the main seem to be through five or six connections when you closer the unit trouble is on mine is that I have five connections on the front and six on the back which seems so wrong so I wonder if I have lost one of the connections

If this true then all I need to do is resolder a connection and it will be fixed

Has anyone got or know of any pictures of the inside that can back this info up

Note the six connections at the top and the five at the bottom

Many thanks for reading

It's hard to tell from the photo but I think these are surface mounted resistors rather than connectors. I would look first of all at how the USB connector is wired or soldered to one of the circuit boards. Does the device do anything at all when switched on?

I did shake it around a bit and nowt came out so I have a closer look at the area that looks like it had something missing and decided that perhaps there was never anything there

So I tweaked the connections which made the PC see the unit but did not recognise it so I tweaked them again

And it worked

What a relief and a save of 180 quid

Regards a very happy Peter
