I find it easier to us the software on a laptop, I also create a scratch disc so the projects are away from my laptop as the files are huge.... so you build an archive
how are you trying to do the edit..? as it's very much about setting up a workflow... then stay well inside these whitelines
most of the time its simpler to create a paper edit first using the emperical approach, cos you'll know what the story is before you start the edit
A. what are you doing
B. where is it, what's interesting about it
C. Who's going,
D. what's happened, why did it happen...
E. did something more exciting happen and are you on a different path to the planned route....
and so on...
the capture is pretty simple
1. film stuff
2. create master folder date order or call it rushes or derek doesn't really matter (make a backup on another disc)
3. open file in 360 software use key frames to create a new flat 4k video file export and rename to describe what it is "fast road section" "swiss alps" or whatever
4. drop this into edit folder "project name"
5. open edit software import everything you want and trim it around "cut in late, leave the shot early" better to have 3 mins of dynamic footage than 3 hours of nothing happening.
6. save project as you go along, create versions of the file. Trusting auto save isn't a good idea....
7. music and pictures, music is there as a bed, when doing the edit you wlll get very sick of hearing that track.... Telling a story needs someone as in vision presenter... record the links live, do the VO (voice-over in post)
there's loads of free music websites and sound alikes...
and remember editing will drive you insane, best to set a hard stop... cos you can't polish a turd
