I have just downloaded the 2009 map udate for my zumo, it was a free download from garmin as my unit is new and so qualified for the freebie.

Before I do this I have backed up my current configuration which goes without saying.

Has anyone else installed the latest 2009 maps to their zumo and did you encounter any difficulties or is it a straightforward update.

Cheers

I agree..............a bit slow but if it works I can cope with the wait downloading and installing.

To be fair to Garmin it states quite clearly at the beginning of the install that it can take up to 2 hours.

Free 2009 Mapping?

I got my Zumo 550 in April 2008. Am I entitled to a free upgrade for the new mapping? The Gamin website wants £59.99 to upgrade.

I'm sure my first upgrade was free with the Quest

Many thanks

When i registered my unit on the 9th december I was given a link to upgrade to the 2009 map foc but it was made clear to me that I had to download it b4 jan 11th, after that I would have to pay.

Im guessing that when you bought your unit the 2008 map was the most up to date whereas mine was not hence qualifying for the free upgrade

Hi

Many thanks for your help. The 2008 DVD was just released so that would explain why no freebie.:blast

No probs with download of 2009 map, carried out about 2 weeks ago on my 2 year old 550 and all went ok :thumb2

Transfer map

Could someone please verify how to upgrade the mapping on the 550 please. I have installed NT 2009 but the Zumo hasn't updated as I expected. I know how to select mapping and transfer to the GPS but I'm not sure how to remove the existing mapset from the unit.

Many thanks

I downloaded the 2009 map then ran the installation purely by clicking on the downloaded map file, everything went perfectly

It took about 2 hours to install and as part of the installation removed the existing mapsource on my pc and replaced it with the most current version.

This was all done with my zumo 550 connected to the pc.

Not sure why it hasnt installed correctly for you

Did you back up your unit first? If you did just install your back up and try installing the 2009 maps again

All sorted many thanks. Todays lesson is don't play on the PC after a lunchtime drink:augie

General upgrade question

Could somebody tell me whether "upgrading" a Zumo 550 from Europe 2008 to Europe 2009
  1. actually removes the 2008 map from the unit and replaces it with the 2009 map
  2. or simply adds the 2009 map on top of the 2008 map
The reason for the question is that I also use the Topographical maps now and then, and if the "upgrade" to 2009 does not replace the 2008 map then adding a Topo map as well will remove the Europe 2009 map, leaving those parts not covered by my current Topo map as Europe 2008.

Does that make sense?

Mup.
