Came back from a 3-week holiday where the bike was left on a trickle charger...prior to being piut on the charger the bike was put away in the garage wet after a VERY heavy downpour on the ride home from work that day.

Good news is the bike started right up - no problems there.

Bad news is the instrument panel appears to be dead - no backlighting, and neither the speedometer or tachometer are operating.

Other symptoms are on occasion the right turn signal flashes at a very rapid rate, the left signal always flashes normally. Also, the front brake seems to have lost some of its force, but AFAIK the front brake is not power assisted (I think only the rear is?) so that doesn't make any sense to me. Strangely enough , the rear brake power assist seems to be working, as I can both feel the power assist as well as hear the servo operating.

On my ride home from work today, the instrument panel briefly came to life (like, for about 3 seconds) on two different occasions, then went dead again.

I searched the forum and didn't find anything which helped me, so I ask for your help here. An ideas? I'm thinking some water seeped in somewhere and corroded some connection somewhere, but not sure where to start looking. Also thought the trickle charger could have blown a fuse somewhere or somehow otherwise disrupted the circuit, but seeing the instrument panel briefly flashed to life (above) I'm less inclined to think that is the case.

Any ideas?

If you've got servo ABS on your bike, it most certainly should work on both front and rear brakes.

probably water ingress- spray some WD40 or such like, on connectors/plugs under the clocks. Worth a try

OK, didn't know the servo worked on the front as well, explains that bit of the puzzle. I also note that I can't hear the servo working either (as I erroneously indicated above) so it makes sense.

Yes, will try that this weekend. Another small bit of the mystery solved I think - the rapid flashing blinker on the right side, I noted the rear blinker on the right side is not working at all, so I'm thinking the rapid flashing might simply be an indicator that there is something wrong in the circuit (if so - nice feature). I'll replace the rear bulb and see if that fixes things.

It seems to be fixing itself - the panel briefly flashed to life a few times on the ride home this evening - hopefully in a few days it will sort itself out. Here's to hoping.

Indicator will most likely be a duff bulb or a bad connection. Pull the connector from the instruments and give it a dry out and see if that fixes anything.

The plot thickens...

Went out today and the bike didn't start - no power whatsoever. Nothing, na-da. Battery appears to be dead (confirmed using multimeter). Bike is on the charger (Optimate) now as I write this.

While looking the bike over I noticed this:

As always, grateful for any advice....

I think that's part of the loom that goes to the ECU- I would be arranging for dealer assessment by whatever means feasible...

yes there is your problem, dead wiring loom. Hopefully it hasn't damaged anything else. As to why, no idea really. You could look for chafing and see if it wore through and shorted but any evidence of that might be long gone now. Simple enough to repair if you don't want to pay a dealer.
