As the bike insurance was coming up for renewal and the renewal quote I got from the current insurer was a rip-off, I was doing the usual shopping around. Got a quote from Hastings Direct for £98, fully comp and was very happy. Telephoned them to discuss the quote and mention that the bike is lowered (original shocks with Hyper pro shorter springs) and they immediately stated they could no longer offer insurance!

With a lot of 'phoning around finally got insurance from Carole Nash for £188, being the best I found. Almost all of the brokers were immediately saying no to a modified bike (and this would appear to include factory lowered GS's).

Has anyone else experienced issues with getting cover on a lowered GS? Seems strange to me that a non performance enhancing mod. is causing such a big issue. For info. At 59 years young, 35+ years claim free riding, IAM qualified and living in a so called low risk post-code, I expected my usual cheap premium.

Insurance companies are state sanctioned scumbags who are always whining that they lose money. However, a look through any Yellow pages will see 30 or 40 pages of companies competeing for this loss making business.

They screw you left right and center and when you make a legitimate claim will do their utmost not to pay out.

If it comes from the factory like that then it isn't modified surely, it's an option.
