Insurance- Green Card and travel insurance for Morocco list

BMW insurance 'computer says no'

I have been on the phone to BMW insurance all afternoon and they say that nobody has ever been granted a green card to travel outside a BMW organised tour and that all that everyone is saying in this forum is incorrect.

can anyone confirm to me that they have recieved a green card from BMW unsurance in the UK and that they will be traveleing to Morocco with it on 3rd party insurance?

one very confused chap:nenau

BMW insurance for Morocco

I have spoken to them again and this time have been given a firm and absolute 'NO', BMW UK will not provide green cards for trips that include Morocco and that my insurance is invalid once I cross the border, I am totally miffed with them and disapointed to say the least! But what can i do?:mcgun:tears

Whoa...several things here in the latest posts...

(1) In the past BuMW Insurance, via Devitt, insured with NIG, have - without a doubt - provided 'green card' - Third party cover - for fully comp (in my case) customers going to Morocco for a couple of weeks.

I have received the cover myself, no question, in 2006 and 2007. It didn't cost me a penny, albeit they once tried to charge me £25.

(2) NIG, the insurer, may (I do not know) have withdrawn this extension. If they have, tough. Buy it at the border.

(3) The little monkeys at Devitt may be unwilling to go to ask NIG for the extension and / or the simple Devitt apes may not know that the possibilty exists. This is something I had to sort out for Novice on the Turkey Trot.

(3) Quite possibly, again I do not know, those that say they have not managed to persuade BuMW / Devitt to cover Morocco are, perhaps, simply not asking the right people.

Don't laugh. We , inside a lagre industrial reinsurance broking house (a million miles divorcred from UK plc and the great unwashed) that just happens to be owned by a High Street bank, have had phone calls from blokes screaming the house down about their daughter's school fees, that just happened to be insured by someone or other....

They will not listen that we are not interested that SunAvivaPru (who we do not work for and hold in similar contempt) are not prepared to cover Sophie's violin....However a quick, 'Feck you, knobhead', seems to get the message across....'Treating customers fairly' is the FSA's instruction...Great. People that are not customers can spin on a sharp stick!

I need names

Is anyone prepared to give me their name to use as evidence with BMW insurance, I am trying to get a green card and cover and they refuse but if i had a test case they would use that to fight with the underwriter.

Anyone ???? :bow

BMW Insurance in Morocco

There is a lot of information about this in the 'Insurance- Green Card and travel insurance for Morocco list' thread but i was fearfull of going off topic and not adding to the list of approved insurers and complicating the thread.:topic
This new thread :type is to facilitate my fight with BMW insurance as they refuse to give me cover in Morocco and will not issue a green card to that effect.
I am trying to find the details of anyone in the UK that has succeded in getting a green card and insurance from BMW to travel to morocco?:bow

If you dont want to give your details over the forum pls mail to me at [email protected] all i am after is your name and location and they should be able to find you on their computer, once they have that information they are prepared to go back to the underwriter and fight the case.
Please understand that this is to get a green card and insurance to go to Morocco on a self organised trip not with BMW organised tour as i already know that they cover those.

anyone prepared to help will be gauranteed a christmas card :D

When I contacted BMW Insurance Services to see if they offered a Green Card ( third-party only ), I was told that I automatically had full European Green Card cover. So I did ask the obvious question as to whether they regarded Morocco as part of Europe, to which I was told "of course" in a very perfunctory manner. When I explained that with Morocco being on the North coast of Africa, rather than mainland Europe, they retracted. I pressed on and asked that the telephone operator speak to a supervisor to clarify this complete volte-face. The supervisor confirmed that they would not be able to offer any insurance, unless I was on a BMW organised tour.
The conversation then moved on and I stated that in that case I would be searching for an alternative policy.
Two days later I received a letter to confirm that they were cancelling my policy under my instruction.
This is the body of a letter I sent in response:
I contacted you on Monday 16 July 2007 to request a quote to extend my existing cover for trip to Morocco planned for November 2007. I was initially told that cover for Morocco was included for up to 90 days. When I reminded your operative that Morocco was not within Europe, I was told that cover did not apply. I asked again for a quote to extend my cover to include for this planned trip, but was told emphatically that cover was not available. The only cover that BMW Insurance Services were able to provide would be under the condition that the trip was organised and conducted by BMW.

This being the case I am now in the position of giving to arrange alternative cover for this trip, which likely require a change of underwriter. If BMW Insurance Services are not interested in quoting, then when suitable arrangements have been made I will likely cancel my existing cover with you, and will be unlikely to renew with you, due entirely to the inflexibility of BMW Insurance Services. Most underwriters will estimate a risk and provide a price for assumption of that risk, you are an exception. Whether I find a quoted price acceptable is the next question.

At no time during my conversation with your operative was a direct instruction to cancel the policy with immediate effect issued. Please check your phone logs and confirm this.

Until I arrange alternative cover I have no intention of cancelling this policy.

Please confirm that you are clear on this point.

Yours Faithfully,

Two days later I received a phone call from them confirming that my policy was not cancelled, and, more significantly, that a Green Card for third-party cover was possible - at no cost !

I even got this confirmed in writing and when speaking to them asked that they note the conversation on file.

Three weeks before leaving, we rang them to arrange the third-party Green Card, and went through the same conversation in paragraph 1
However we could provide a name and reference form the letter we had received. Immediately they said "Third-Party only Green Card has been arranged and will be in the post" WTF !!
It turned up 2 days later, and did clearly state that cover extended to Morocco.

The moral is that if you want anything outside of the mainstream (which insurance for Morocco seems to be), then avoid call centres, go Retro and write a polite letter directly to the insurer.

If you want more details then PM me.

Devitt, who look after the BuMW Motorrad Insurance scheme, insured by NIG, are being very
awkward.

I have a fully comp BuMW policy, bought via Devitt.

I have been to Morrocco twice, in the last two years. Both times Devitt's initial response, over the phone was, "It can't be done". I stuck to my guns and Hey-Bingo, one 'green card'.

I have given up phoning them. This year I am off to Turkey, via Greece and probably the former Yugoslavia. I simply wrote to Devitt, listing all the countries and asking them for a 'green card'. Writing Devitt a letter requires them to be careful how they reply. Back it came, all the countries, no problem.

Since then I have been involved sorting out exactly the same problem for two other UKGSers on the same, Turkey Trot. Both have been told it's impossible. I called up on their behalf, and was told "It's not possible", too. "Rubbish", said I, "I have my 'green card' in my hand, policy no XYZ, it plainly includes Turkey and all the oither countries I asked for.

"Oh, OK, then, we'll do it".

It really is very poor of Devitt to piddle about.

I can fully understand that if the customer does not have a BuMW policy it may very well be different, or if they only have TP Fire and Theft. But to tell bone-fide, Full Comp, BuMW Motorrad customers the wrong information and then be unhelpful, is unforgivable.

Good luck! :thumb2

I totally sympathise with you. I have been trying to get agreen card for Turkey since the beginning of FEBRUARY for my BMW policy.

All you need to do is refer the one person that has already given you details. NO need to get names of 10's of people. It worked for me.

I initially gave up and went with Carole Nash. Little bit more money but the staff knew what they were talking about. At least they were "trained" or equipped to give you the full picture. If you get the policy from Groupama (the owner of Carole Nash) then it will cover loads of Non EU places. The green cards are FREE vs BMW which charges around £30 each time.

Maybe worth while to buy the carole nash policy and save yourself the grief. :nenau

Missions....

Bert, If I could find a way around the £40 surcharge from Devvits for cancelation and the 10% of next months installment by BMW, i would have dropped BMW like a stone and moved over to Carol Nash as you have 'Coughed' about but I would be loosing money by doing so. :tears hence the fight im having, plus now i think I'm on a mission :rob

Missions can get expensive!
I was with Devitts many years....
I had written them a letter re all my extras on my bike and had their confirmation in writing on their headed paper that these were covered......
Upon renewal, I told them of a change from TT cases to MM....and they said "none of your extras are covered........"  errr what?

I sent them a copy of their letter... and they told me they had to speak to their underwriters as they didn't know anything about it.....

So switched to Carole Nash. Draw your own conclusions....

Morocco Green Card Again

Sorry to be boring but I have just been on the phone to Devitts to try and arrange a Green card for Morocco for a trip in May, and have been told (after they contacted BMW) that BMW have stopped doing this in the last 'few weeks'. Would anyone who has managed to obtain a green card in the last week or so be prepared to let me have either their name and policy number or name and address so that I can try and push the matter again.

Many thanks

Mike

Mike,
I’ve just checked my "green card" I got from my insurer.
I am insured with BMW. The "green card" is issued by NIG.
It was Free and came within two days of asking.
I will PM all my details. Hope this helps.

BMW insurance Green Card

I recieved the call from BMW today :surrenderand have been told that they WILL give me a green card to travel to Morocco and that this will be fully comprehensive cover and will not cost me a penny:clap, the only condition they have applied is that I will need to contact them in May and give them my schedule of stops and how long I will be in Morocco:thumb, I travel on the 11th June 2008 and will only be in the country for 14 days on a trip NOT organised by BMW. So this is testiment that when they say NO, absolutly NOT, can't be done, is never done and I qoute 'According to our system nobody in the UK has this cover and will not be able to help you sir , sorry' this is all a bluff and if you keep going and show others who have already cover they MUST give in. :Aurelius

A good result! :wave

1) Motorcycle Direct- Online broker or call motorcycle quote line on 0870 751 8499

Were the cheapest policy for me on my 1150GSA by a significant margin and issued green card immediately, free, valid for 40 days.

Underwriters AXA

:spitfire ...They dont want to know ... and say none of their underwriters will offer a green card, even though they offer cover for morocco (at extra cost £56 for 10days ... Bloody rip off) .... not much use when a green card is a requirement for many countries such as morocco .....

Help ..... 6 weeks to go, next the muppets at :mcgun Carol Nash (whom i really , really dislike

Maybe time to reregister the bike abroad ... even better move abroad
