Please! anybody brought a bike in from another EU country please? i need to find an insurance company who will insure the bike on the VIN number.
Yep, i have to import the bike from Norn Iron, what a load of old crap this is.
I even have to do a VAT form:blast Seems that Norn Iron is not part of the UK,
guy at the DVLA told me tonight.. So yer all For-in-ers:augie Passports next.

thanks muchly. lyn.

Off the record it would seem that the mainland Plod don't like the DVA in Norn Iron cos if a NI bike/plate gets flashed the DVA in NI tell um to go away we are not letting you have the owners details, well that is until 1-01/09 then i/you have to have the details on the puters over here.....told to me in a wisper by the guy at the DV**.. SO i now have to import the bike.....
TA!

Carole Nash insured my CCM with a VIN only back in 2001.

Thanks Cheb i will give them a call tomorrow...:thumb2
on the same topic could somebody with a UK user manual tell me the power to weight for the 100gspd thingy please, these bloody import forms:blast

Yeap Carole Nash..Ive done It on a couple of bikes. You need to provide a U.K. Reg within 30 days though.

Said in jest but actually being discussed at the moment. As Norn Iron has no land border with the UK, the proposed changes to immigration controls could result in residents of Norn Iron having to produce a valid passport to enter the UK.
The only hope of reprieve will be if the Rep of ireland introduces the same system of controls to maintain the integrity of the common travel area between UK and Ireland(north and south).
I can imagine what the bowler hatted brigade think of this!!:augie

Have imported several bikes from England to Norn Iron the last being in July 2008 and yes Norn Iron is part of the UK as MR Darling manages to find my £65 every year for road tax, the system works the same when importing a bike to England
Get the owner in NI to fill out the Premanent Export part of the V5 he posts this to DVA Coleraine, you take the rest of the V5 with you, find some person at the DVA with a brain? send them the V5 and you usually have 2 options, keep the existing registration mark (NI) or get a age related plate issued from DVA Swansea, any insurance company will insure you with a NI Plate,
If the bike has tax you have to apply for a refund from DVA Coleraine as the tax disc is not transferrable
as for the DVA Coleraine not giving out details this is a load of Bollox, if you get a speeding ticket at present you can not pay the fixed penalty fine or get points on your licence as you live outside GB Mainland and have a NI Driving licence, instead you get a court summons to appear at the district court (Dumfries being a popular place for speeding on the A75 when rushing to get the ferry, but thats another storey :topic)
Regards
Colin

As the previous owner I can confirm its all been done and for some reason those involved in Swansea won't listen to bloody sense!

Whoever is dealing with this at Swansea is talking out of his ARSE !!!!

Being as it was previously in UK all you need is it's old reg number [if it's been changed since] and Although Swansea will say "that bike was exported" you say Well it's just been re imported ...

I've never had this sort of crap in over 30 years of moving bikes round Europe

Fecking Numpty dickhead Taffy bastard in DVLA :mad::mad::mad:

Got this from Biba tonight Re: who does insurance on a VIN number...
May help others who get in the same fix...

MCE - 0870 420 7575

AJ Insurance - 0844 880 6738

Adrian Flux - 0870 077 2266
I asked for insurance agents in the North Wales area BTW.

Plus Carol Nash who also e-mailed today saying they also will insure for 30 days. So CN it'll be Monday morning.
