Just had my renewal through - it's gone from £197 to £290. This is via BMW/Devit who were with NIG underwriters last year, now with Allianz. This cover is for two bikes, the GS is an '08 Adventure, unlimited mileage, fully comp, NCB protection (5 years) with all the other legal/liability extras removed as I have them from other policies. It also includes an additional 10% uplift on standard rates which covers all the additional modifications done to the bike i.e remus headers/Akra can/extra lights, horns/non-oem screen/ SatNav etc., all of which is noted within the policy. There are no additional changes to the risk over last year.

£290 is'nt a massive amount but it is a 50% hike on last year. BMW (Devit) say that Allianz are using the rates NIG had published and there is no room for manouver.

Anyone had a quote for similar thats much less than this? For a few quid I will leave as is, but might switch if I could save more than say £50.

mine went up also, but only by £10 from £140 to £150. two bike insurance with BMW (allianz) for a 1150gs & r80st.

£100 more sounds a bit steep!

Jonathan.

What is the other bike? If you own 2 BMWs, you can inure the other one ( if it is registered in your name) for a tenner. Alternative bikes, come in more expensive...but i suppose you relise that now:blast

My GSA insurance (which is with BMW scheme) is due in June and back in 2010 it was £134 fully comp. I've just added an RT 1200 to the policy for £12.50

Will wait and see what they say this June :augie

Sorry should have said - the other bike is a K1100RS so it's on as second bike for a tenner.

I have just switched to BMW insurance. I have 6 years NCB and with all my modifications I am paying around £300 which compares well to other insurers I tried. Includes cover for the top box, Ohlins shock, crash bars etc and all the extra legal bells and whistles too.

As an aside, the extra bikes through the new Allianz scheme appear to be £10 per £1000 value rather than a flat £10. Not a huge problem for my airhead RT but if you have a posh second bike this could be more of an issue.

Cheers,

Matt

That's intersting thanks. I did'nt ask that question. The K bike is at £2.5K value and I would leave it at that.

I also questioned the mileage allowance. Their answer is that they only have two bands, under 3K and over 3K. Over 3K and its "Unlimited mileage" and under 3K its "Limited mileage". You only get a small discount for the latter so it makes no difference if you do 4K or 40K, which did'nt make sense to me from a risk point of view. My GS is down for 12K and K bike under 3K per year.

Get used to the premiums going up.

Get used to shopping around.

Get used to not comparing a bod who lives in Dorset, with a bod who lives in central Manchester.

Get used to shopping around.

Get used to not comparing a bod who lives in America, South Africa, France or Japan.

Get used to shopping around.

Get used to not understanding the mysteries of Motor insurance pricing.

Get used to shopping around.

That's about all, other than:

Get used to shopping around. :beerjug:

Dearest Wapping,

I was comparing like for like, apples for apples i.e myself with myself, one year older but probably not wiser, same bike, same house, same postcode, same underwear come to think of it. Of course, I will do due diligence as I have done for 33 years by shopping around although having thought about it a two bike policy for sub £300 will be hard to find. I just felt a 50% rise was a lot - that's all.

Fondest wishes......:)

Just renewed my bike ins with carol nash, £232 full comp, three bikes, 2010 gsa, 07 x challenge and a tiger cub, insured with Allianz, comes with full uk and european accident and breakdown cover inc punctures.:thumb

Exactly what I've been doing all week.
Last year £250 with Carole Nash now they want £321 this year. Nothing changed apart from the fact I have another years no claims and it still goes up.
Looked at BMW ins as a lot of you guys seem to go with them but they came back at £601 :eek:

Gonna try the Meerkat tonight and see what's around.

Good luck to the rest of you.:thumb2

Been with auntie Carol a few years now, changed from the buell to the BMW and increased the mileage, 10years no claims, got a renewal through for £195, not to bad I thought considering the bike is of a higher value, more miles, and newer bike, anyway rang them up as there was some incorrect details, they had missed that I had access to the wife's car and the bike had an immobilizer, so he re-quoted me to make sure there was no difference in premium and it came up £40 cheaper, result :thumb2

Also they now give you full AA cover for UK and Europe with home start :thumb2

05 GS - retired, I.A.M. member, bike garaged, paid £92 with Adrian Flux for fully comp. Cheaper than last year too!

Not directed at you, dear heart. Just help / encouragement to others to do what you have been doing for 33 years. A long time, during which you have probably got used to all sorts of swings in premium. Good that you have set yourself a target of under a pound a day to beat :thumb2

Any insurance company will take the piss if you don't move. Only mugs renew. Same with mortgages, energy bills and just about everything else where you have a 'choice'

You should remind BMW Insurance of what it says on their website:

"Additional BMW motorcycles insured at a flat rate of £10.50 per motorcycle"

as per this link: http://www.bmw-motorrad.co.uk/finance-and-insurance/insurance/bmw-motorrad-insurance/benefits.html

When I bought my 650XC and added it to my BMW GS policy, they tried to charge the £10.50 plus a £20 admin fee. They soon waived the admin fee when I pointed them at the BMW website and reminded them how their product works.

Well I have just pulled the trigger with Carole Nash. Better cover in the end than via BMW, Fully comp, multi bike policy, NCB protection, 90 days around europe and free AA cover. I put a base value of 9K on the GSA (3 yrs old now) with new replacement cost for the accessories/modifications at another £4K. 15K total yearly mileage for both bikes. Total was £233. :beerjug:
