Hello all,

I'm having some difficulty finding insurance. So hopefully someone here has some experience. I am a one man limited company, the GS will be owned by the company but may or may not be insured in my name. I have been riding constantly for 20 years and getting insurance as a private individual (with business use) has not been a problem. This is the first time that the bike will be owned and registered by another entity i.e. my company. The usual insurers don't want to know because I am not the registered owner and keeper!

Does anyone know which companies will be able to insure me in these circumstances?

Put your name on the V5. The registered keeper does not have to be the legal owner of a vehicle. After all, any speeding tickets for said vehicle need to be directed to your door :). This is standard practice for many leasing companies as they don't want the hassle of redirecting speeding tickets, parking fines etc.

You may need to declare the company's interest in the vehicle, although unlikely.

As far as insurers go, try a proper broker rather than call centres.

I have followed my accountants advice and put the bike in the Company name. Good point about the speeding ticket, I haven't thought how this would be handled.

I can understand how a larger company would have the hassle of redirecting tickets with a fleet of bikes, however as a one man operation I'm not sure this will really apply. Also I only need Class 1 business use, nothing special!

Calling around the insurers, I've found a lot won't cover me, however Carole Nash will cover me at a reasonable rate. Bennetts don't want to know along with other smaller insurers.

Well done CN so far! :bounce1

I use Ducati Insurance.

The bike is insured in my company's name with me as the named driver.:thumb2

It's a strange disparity...we had an S6 (and later a 530d) as a family hack that I bought and looked after, but was mostly driven (and therefore insured) by my mum. My name was on the V5, but none of her insurers ever batted an eyelid when my interest in the vehicle was declared.

Do the same on a bike and everyone runs a country mile.

As mentioned in previous posts, my V5 has my name then the Company name and address.

I am insured with BMW (Devitts) fully comprehensive and they charged me an extra £40.00 for:
"Use by the policy holder in connection with his or her business"

Total cost: £271.00 (£250.00 excess)

Hope this helps.

BMW insurance

Just had a quote from BMW £180 fully comp, class 1 business use, business owned bike, private policy.

Bargain.

Just in case you need the info, if you go to Morroco on your bike and it's registered in a business name, expect alot of hassel at customs, as it's not common there (if it happens at all) to have vehicle registered in a company name. Funny enough a few extra 'shekkles' helps alter the custom geezers view on these matters. DAHIK:augie
