I have a motorcycle I bought through my company, so it's legal 'registered keeper' is the Ltd company, but no one will insure it.

They're all saying I personally have to be the registered owner/keeper

Surely I can't be the only person in the UK with a company-owned motorcycle that needs insurance? People do it with cars all the time.

Anyone had any experience of this issue?

I thought that the company is the registered owner but you as the rider are the registered keeper and should have your name and address on the V5 and be responsible for taxing and insuring it and paying any fines accrued, unless another rider is identified.

My company is registered keeper of our hack, and insures and taxes it. Not the several drivers who are named on the policy.

Who are you insured with? I cant find anyone who will insure it if it's owned and registered by my LTD company

I was specifically told by my accountants that the company needed to be the name on the V5C - but even if it was my name instead (or my name and the company name, which you can also do), the insurance companies I've tried won't insure it if it's 'owned' by my LTD company.

I just don't understand what I'm meant to do - I can't be the only company director who's LTD has bought a 'company motorcycle' through the company and therefore needs insurance??

Didn't @Warlord buy his AT through his company, I know his car was.

No.

I bought my Africa Twin myself... on a PCP Deal "too good to be true"

Still got the bike, all dressed up for a Dakar Rally :D

Lovely bike. Had a lot of fun on it.

My Tesla was bought through my Company due to Tax incentives. :)

Sorry, “hack” = Skoda Kodiak. I’d have to check the insurers, but a local broker sorted it, and he doesn’t do bikes.

I was really replying to Lolgeoff.

Is that any different from buying a bike and insuring it through the business?

Aviva, if they cannot do it, then god knows.

Is that from experience or just a guess?

They don’t seem to do motorcycle insurance at all looking at their site

I should imagine that you are wasting time, if all you are doing is calling up or surfing through the websites of the usual run-of-the-mill insurance providers and / or their chimps.

Clearly, the insurance of motorcycles owned by a company, should be possible; how else do the training companies (that provide bikes to their pupils and staff) manage? Whether or not that is ‘easier’ as these companies have a fleet of bikes, as opposed to your one bike (possibly under some cunning tax wheeze) is another matter entirely.

If you haven’t already, I would suggest that you contact a specialist broker. It’s not a perfect fit but start by calling brokers (there are lots of them) dealing with the motor trade. They probably won’t be able to help, but a vaguely switched on bod on the other end of the line might suggest something.

PS This thread went well…..

This thread meanders a bit but it shows that it’s possibly (and unsurprisingly) not straightforward:

I particularly liked the last post.

I had a fleet policy for all the company vehicles and any vehicle under our control, that use to really good sadly this got binned off by NU at the beginning of this year...

So I've had to privately insure the bikes and other stuff... bloody annoying

the fleet policy was expensive but worthwhile, in my opinion as it covered all users and had european breakdown cover...

now we have to have a folder in each vehicle as the vans, cars etc. are on one policy and the bikes are on another really messy... and no cheaper...

Thanks for your input all

I’ve found a broker who has managed to actually speak to the underwriters (Ageas) and has found me a policy - £560, so more than the £350-ish a ‘private’ policy would be but at least it’s a policy!

For another broker who has left a message to say he’s also found me a couple so looks good

Will report back

Excellent.

When yiu have settled on a broker / insurer, please let us know their nsme(s) and any other relevant contact details. I suggest I then edit the thread and sticky it. Whilst everyone’s details are different, it might help give some help to others with a similar problem.

The problem you are having is brokers use fleet policies which are designed for a number of cars/bikes when we had just the one company van it was almost impossible to find insurance but now we have 5 porsche's 3 BMW, 2 Teslas and a van all insured for well under £4K - thats any driver over 25/30 depending on the car.

All sorted - Principle Insurance (0330 024 0087)

They found me an underwriter to accept the bike being owned/registered to my limited company on a personal business use policy

£494 fully comp

Happy with that!

Aviva do sell motorcycle policies direct to consumer, only via a broker. My V85 is with Aviva via Devitt.
