I've found Adelaide the cheapest for insuring in Dublin for the last few years but their breakdown cover is pure sh1te and I found that out the hard way!!
I was just on my way home from the Donegal photo rally point last summer and My Varadero decided it would be great fun to drop a camchain tensioner in the front cylinder just outside Newtown Stewart.
After being hopped from Billy to Jack in about 10 different phone calls to Adelaide, I was given 3 options.......
1. 1hrs roadside assistance
2. A tow to the nearest authorized repair garage..... OR
3. A tow up to a maximum of 15 miles!!!
1. Useless unless the mechanic happened to have a spare engine with them
2. Not exactly financially viable on a 99 bike and also a logistical nightmare
3. Still leaves me 130 miles from home with a fcuked bike!!
They have no continuation of journey on their breakdown policy either so its best avoided unless you only drive within a 15 mile radius of your house.
I have my car insured with the AA and they offer breakdown cover for the policy holder, not specific named vehicles, for around €80 for the year. This covers you as a passenger or for whatever you are licensed to drive!
So its always worth remembering, Cheapest isn't always best so shop around.
In a way, We are lucky down south as there are only a handful of bike insurers to choose from. Each have their own strengths and weaknesses, but generally I have found them good value in recent years.
I'm 34 with a Full licence, Full bonus, No penalty points, Bike garaged, Living in D.24, Bike used for Social, Domestic and Commuting, 6K miles per year, 2 bikes - '03 1150 GSA and '00 Bandit 1200 - €380 Fully comp with Step back and the shitty breakdown cover included for both bikes.
I think the breakdown cover is an extra €45.
