I just went through renewing my insurance and called around to compare prices. In case it helps anyone else, here's what I found out:

Previously, I've been with AON/AXA. They sent me a renewal notice for €750 which was HIGHER :nenau than last year which prompted the search..

[I'm insuring an '08 R1200GSA with a stated value of €18k-€20k. I wanted full comprensive insurance with breakdown cover. I have 3 yrs NCB]

Carole Nash
€669 (incl multi-bike and ability to ride other bikes, €650 excess).

Quinn Direct
€516 (single bike only, €200 excess)

AON (again)
After haggling, they reduced the €750 to €681 (multi-bike, can't remember excess)

Adelaide
Initial quote was €577. After a modest amount of haggling they reduced it to €478 (multi-bike, ability to ride other bikes, breakdown cover in uk and irl & legal cover, €500 excess)

So, Adelaide got my business this year. :thumb2

Yeah......... I have both my bikes insured with Adelaide since last march, well the triumph since March 08 and added the 1200GS in September 08 for a coupe of euro extra. It will be interesting to see insurance companies are prepared to come down with their premiums at this years bike show in the RDS. I remember at the last show 2006 I managed to get 150 my off my policy by playing AON off against Carole Nash. :thumb2

insurance

Mine sent normal renewal notice,"most competitive price in the market" blurb I checked their web site and reduced it by £15,phoned them and said I would not be renewing with them and they took another £7 off.Does seem to be a lottery with renewals. The wife thought I was being a bit anal trying to get lower prices but hey £89 fully comp is a lot of money:augie

Brian...

my renewal just arrived from carol nash £182.24 for my 1100gs, 15 minutes on the net and hey presto £68.88 with bennetts, always worth shopping around.

So anyone know how to get a good deal on Health insurance...
With Quinn.. Was €605 last year, they want €740ish for renewal..

Sean quinn must be trying to recoup that billion he lost on Anglo Irish bank, but the rest seem to have similar prices.

So, any health insurers out there I may have overlooked?

Moved recently from Quinn/BUPA to Hibernian. 300+ saving for a family of 5 (Quinn wanted over 2 grand.....) Cover seems better and a broker handled all the paperwork.........result!

They wouldn't insure me last year as the bike,at the time an 07 GSA, was kept overnight in shed.Do you keep yours in a garage?

Don't you know that we all keep our bike garaged

garage |ˈgarɑː(d)ʒ| |-ɪdʒ| |gəˈrɑːʒ|
noun
1 a building or shed for housing a motor vehicle or vehicles.
• an establishment that provides services and repairs for motor vehicles.
2 (also garage rock) [ mass noun ] a style of unpolished energetic rock music associated with suburban amateur bands. [as adj. ] : garage band.

So, according to the Oxford Dictionary, if you can house your bike in it, it's a garage.

Got my renewal thru yesterday for 01 Feb. Currently with Carole Nash, and policy underwritten by Quity Red Star........ they wanted £487.55.....:eek:
I know I've only had my full licence for one year, but FFS, I'm a mature:augie rider in my 40's.......
Quick search on net found a reasonable quote thru 'ebike'. Needless to say, I'll not be renewing thru Carole Nash. Atleast Dick Turpin wore a mask !

They specified "block build" ,don't know if that would sit right with me? Too much of a worry'er! I would be nervous if something happend any claim would fail! Thanks for the info though.

Garaged GS?

My GS is not a poodle or other little house pet... it's more like a good gun dog, always wanting to be out in the fresh air!

Quinn Insurance think I keep it garaged, but would you lock up a gun dog?

Has anyone tried the BMWMOTORRAD insurance for BMW owners. they quoted me £153. for a 2000 GS and a 1979 R100RS I got in touch with Carole Nash my curent insurer who originally quoted a stupid amount £300+, got down to £170.... my business went with Carole Nash as you get free breakdown cover for Europe and you dont with BMW. but it's always worth a giggle to see what you get quoted... It's my understanding that the insurance company is subsidised by BMW to encourage peolple to buy their bikes and get their insurance. :nenau:nenau

insurance comparison

i think this thread could be summarised by saying that the different companies charge different rates for different bike/rider combinations, at different times of the year!

Maybe everyone could post their price, cover level and insurance company details (phone number/website address). The one thing I've seen is that phoning around is the best paying days work you'll get all year, and bouncing the companies off one another puts money in your wallet.

I've a 2006 R1200 Adv insured TPFT for £376 (2 other bikes on the policy aswell, though...) and I'm insured through Rampdale (rampdale.com, 0844 815 6125).

I'm based in the North and I renewed 2 weeks ago.

Patrick.
