I know there are older threads on this, but anyone had up to date experience, My insurance is due for renewal with AON, but Adelaide are 150 euro cheaper, I used to be insured with Carole Nash but never again as I had a very bad experience with them when it came to a claim, I don't want to go down the same road again in the event of an accident, In the case of C/N you pay your money in Ireland but your claim is handled in UK, My bike was 6 months old parked along side 4 other bikes, A drunk in a jeep decides to drive over them all, AON paid out for the other bikes no problem, I lost 4k on depreciation, had I been with AON they replace new with new up to 12 months, So has anyone dealings with Adelaide and how would you rate them, As we all know insurance is great until you have a problem.

I've always been insured with Adelaide and don't have any complaints however they are just the broker and when you put in for a claim you are passed off to the actual insurer for them to deal with. Again I've no complaints about the dealing with them either but not everyone is put through the same insurers, they will advise you when you inquire about the policy who it is that's offering you insurance through them. Adelaide's admin fees are expensive enough though, I do think nearly thirty quid to remove a bike or change address is a bit excessive especially when others offer it for free.

As the seller, Adelaide, is a broker so check who the underwriter is and READ THE POLICY BEFORE PURCHASE to check for limitations compared to your current policy. You already have experienced one limitation that will reduce a premium, others will be the excess and whether you can take a pillion.

Who handles claims? Sometimes the broker will do this under contract to the underwriter (like C Nash), sometimes it will be the underwriter. Some will have better reputations than others.

What fees will the broker levy if you make a policy change mid-year? In the UK Bennetts quote cheap annual fees and recover the difference by charging high fees for an address or bike change mid-year. On the other hand, Ebike will let you log onto their website and do in year changes yourself, sometimes for no costs if their underwriting risk remains unchanged.

You criticise C Nash for not buying you a new bike. They are the broker not the underwriter so can only operate within the terms of the contract you signed with the underwriter. It was YOUR choice to buy a policy underwritten by a company that did not offer the "new bike in the first 12 months". This was YOUR mistake, not anyone else's unless CNash misrepresented the policy, which I very much doubt.

Adelaide

Just moved from CN to Adelaide (Royal Sun Alliance). CN weren't open to matching Adelaide's price, so made the move. Same cover, breakdown support, European cover.

I've just had a play on Go Compare The company with the cheapest quote for an 06 R1200 GS was Hastings which came out at £112.87 fully comp with a £250 excess
inc 90 days european cover no breakdown though

Not much use to us in IRELAND :augie. This is in the "Ireland" section.

Adelaide breakdown cover is only for bikes 15years or newer.

Adelaide breakdown cover is abolutely shite!! Your €40 gives you 3 options....

A. 1hrs roadside assistance
B. A tow to the nearest authorized repair agent OR
C. A tow up to a maximum of 15 miles.

It left me rightly fcuked last year coming home from the Donegal photo rally point when a CCT on my Varadero decided to crap itself in Newtownstewart. I ended up having to hire a van myself to get me and the bike home as the breakdown cover doesn't even include continuation of journey! !

Granted, I renewed my policy with them again this year as they were cheaper by a long shot but put the €40 towards AA breakdown instead that covers me as opposed to a vehicle. Best option all round for my situation.

Lesson learned for me - cheaper isn't always better and always read the fine print! !

Well my mind was made up for me with a phone call to Adelaide, as they no longer cover classic bikes I renewed with AON, Adelaide gave a great quote for the GS but I couldn't let the old Triumph tied up in the garage, I also learned, maybe ye all know it already, but if not please take note, When you fill out your proposal and declare the bike is garaged, if for eg you come home from spin, park in the driveway for a short while and in that period your bike is robbed YOU HAVE NO INSURANCE, simply because you should have put it in the garage, this does not apply to AON, but does with Adelaide and maybe others too, so check it out.

Not sure about in RoI but in the UK most insurers have a sensible endorsement if the bike is supposed to be parked in a garage. This is from the Ebike policy:

"E3 Garaging Excess
Any risk where a discount is given, in the event of a claim occurring between the hours of 22:00 and
06:00 (BST or GMT as applicable) if a Theft or attempted Theft of the Motorcycle occurs within a 500
metre radius of Your home or the Garaging address when the Motorcycle is not in a locked Garage, "
will be subject to an additional £250 compulsory Theft Excess.
This amount is in addition to any other Excess(es) shown in the Motor Policy Schedule."

I am insured with Carole Nash Gerry, and the bike is not covered for theft within 1/2 mile of the house. It's declared as kept in a garage, I always lock it up straight after a ride.

Insurance Question

I too have had a play with Go Compare and The Bike Insures. 2010 GSA Exeter Garaged and was amazed at the huge difference between the lowest and highest. Lowest £89 (Wicked quotes AGM) , highest £920 E-bike. 4+ yrs NCB.

Was insured with E-bike as they give 365 days outside UK until April this year when the renewal quote doubled to over £900. They could give me no explanation other than they were only passing on underwriters' increases. Got same cover from CN for half. Surprised to find out it was the same underwriter as the previous E-bike policy

Let me just say that I am less than impressed by E-bikes honesty.

I did notice that not all insurers make it easy to see/read their policy document before buying their insurance

I was told that the bike wasn't covered within half a mile of the house by the person on the phone in Carole Nash, I was too lazy to actually check it.

Interesting, have been looking to see where CN state the bike is not insured for theft within a half mile of the premises unless garaged and can't find it. Started with AON, been with CN for the last few years, have the time to do a bit of a compare this time for a change!

sometimes it will be added onto the policy schedule as an endorsement - it is on my UK CNash/Aviva policy, which has a restriction to say if the bike is at my house the bike has to be garaged from 2200-0600, which is fine by me. If it gets nicked off the drive at 1600 whilst I'm having a post ride piss then they will pay out.

As I implied above, any endorsement has to be reasonable so applying a time window is sensible as they can't make it impossible for you to do everyday things like maintenance, cleaning or taking your shopping into the house.
