So I've got my new r1200gs te tb and now comes the insurance bit. Have taken the "free" insurance from BMW, but there just isn't any option for the actual bike I've got, it either comes up r1200gs te 2013-2016) or r1200gs tb se (2011-2016) (which is what the BMW insurance chap chose). Anyone else had this problem and if so which model did you choose? Incidentally either option comes out with the same premium....

It's a GS TE. Did the insurance company ask you what colour it is?

Eddles ignore the patronising responses, all you asked for was some help and some people can't help expressing how superior they are. I asked for a quote yesterday and said it was the triple black GSA, but doubted they had it on their system as it was so new.
He then said no it's here on my system and went on to quote so unsure why yours was not as specific.

They did however send me my 5 day insurance certificate that only runs for 4 days :blast

Thanks all, went for the Gs te option, unlike the BMW call centre lol. I understand that they didn't ask what colour but it did make a difference to the price I paid for the bike -unfortunately.... You would have thought that BMW might have all their models listed properly, this one has been out for several months now. Incidentally the web price was nearly £80 cheaper than the phone price....

I hope you weren't referring to me, as I wasn't being patronising.:rob

I've never been asked what colour the bike is, just the reg number, make and model, and value. On my registration document, there's no mention of "Triple Black", just a black GSA, so that's the information I gave my insurance company.;)

£80 cheaper meh.

So get this. I have a quote from the 'Asda money' comparison site for new GSA and BMW Motorrad is 4th cheapest at £480. So phone them up to get my 5 free days cover and they do a quote for annual renewal at the end of that period. Expecting £480, remember, and bang, that will be £890 for the year sir WTF !!!! So how the hell can that be. I have triple checked all the info and 100% certain all is accurate. ANyone explain that ?

Insurance companies have been known to pull figures out of the sky. Similar happened to me when I ordered my new car; Admiral quoted £340 to insure it, then when it was about to be delivered, that went up to over £600. When I asked them why, they said that it depends on various factors on the day. Wankers.
