intaride EVO

I ordered my Intaride Evo about a week ago, and it arrived on Friday morning at around 1130, which as I was leaving to go to Ypres at around 1pm didnt give me much time to get it installed and working (as well as pack a bag, finish 'working from home' etc)!

Anyway, I threw it into the bike (I've a Honda Varadero now and the battery is nicely accessible under the seat, and there's plenty of space for this sort of thing).

Did a quick "one-two, one-two test" for the vox settings, they worked fine. There are separate controls for vox and both the rider and pillion.

Wired it into the Garmin 2610, they supplied a 3.5 to 2.5mm mono lead which cost £5 or so, that worked fine with no interference or alternator (etc) noise as everything is filtered out in the unit itself apparently.

Put the mic and speakers into my Tour X helmet, very easy install there too.

All in all, I had it installed (albeit not a professional job), running and working perfectly within 30 mins.

Not criticising Autocom, as its really a combination of things, but after four years I was still getting interference, hum, vox problems, faulty leads etc with my Pro Sport kit, and that costs hundreds in the end with all the additional leads and filters.

And Intaride are cheap too, a complete set, with everything you would probably need costs around £160.

A definite :thumb from me. Im thinking of getting the radio (A80) installed as well - they do a install kit which comes with a remote antenna. I'll let you know how everything gets on.

Cheers,

Mike

Well my upgrade arrived over the weekend and I must say pleasantly surprised works far better than the RP1. Still have a few issues but I should be able to work them out once have fitted the system more premanently into the bike but so far so good.

happy to hear you've had a good experience with your unit. I still get problems with the music cutting in/out. Intaride suggested tweaking volumes. That didn't help, but, a new unit is in the mail with a return envelope to the UK for mine (I'm in US). Customer service couldn't be better. They are genuinely interested in seeing their new product take off.

I agree about how expensive Autocom is. Seems everything you want to do adds yet another expensive isolated lead. Granted, most folks are happy with Autocom, but, I hate all the wires as it is. I wanted to simplify and Intaride EVO seemed like the best way to do it, while saving a couple bucks!

Hopefully, mine will get sorted and I'll be in as good shape!

Cheers,
Jim

got my new unit. Music issues are resolved and now I have a flawless comm setup! Great product. Great customer service!

Went and picked up a replacement unit as there was a tiny manufacturing fault with the original one, tested the new unit while I was there and it worked faultlessly, the really interesting thing though is how close their wireless add on to the Evo is to being ready, saw a working Demo and it was impressive, battery life is expected to be approx 20hours constant music with a mains and bike charger aswell, plus it uses the same lead so if you were stuck then you can simply plug the jack plug back in until you can recharge. They kept there cards close to there chests but it doesn't use bluetooth (which restricts you to either music or speech not both) so has all the benefits of a hardwired system without the wires, range is expected to be approx 30metres so it's not bike to bike (you'll need the PRR for that), mine will definately be on order as soon as they release it :D

Thats interesting. Good call about them dropping Bluetooth; its just about ok for handsfree kits and GPS's, but anything more demanding and it doesnt make the grade.

Did you happen to notice how big the 'pods' were going to be?

Cheers,

Mike

The pod's are definately going to be smaller than the one pictured on their website, I didn't see a pod inself, just the internals, the board is approx the size of two stamps side by side and approx 3mm thick and the battery slightly smaller so I can't see the pods being anymore than 10mm deep 20mmx30mm dee even taking into account the curvature of the helmet.

Sounds good Ned have been waiting long time for this...

Question to anyone who has an EVO with a Garmin GPS can you use it with a standard lead ? I read in the blub you could but mine sounds awful without my filter lead? Or have I got something wrong.

Im interested in using the Evo kit along with my 2610 gps and also bike to bike radio.

I have R1200GS bike, where do you guys mount the evo unit and the bike to bike radio? Also where is the power taken from?

Im concerned as under the seat space is very limited and its also very open to water etc.

Does anyone know how this compares to autocom?

A few years ago when the RP1 was first released I bought a kit but ended up returning it as we couldn't get it to work satisfactorly for bike to bike.

I would like the autocom system as I've never heard anyone saying it doesn't work but its quite a bit more expensive than the intaride kit as they charge extra for the various leads ect which mounts up!

I do like the idea that unused leads can be removed from the evo system and you just plug the leads in when required and also projack plugs are better than autocoms din plugs.

Is Intarides A80 radio compatible with kenwood tk3201 used by autocom systems as some of my mates have these radios. Im assuming that all PMR radios have the same channels is this correct?

I appreciate any comments.

Ian

Ian this is where I mounted mine from an idea of this site :-

evoloc.jpg

the backing is a small piece of plastic roughly 3" by 3", I am still working on waterproofing from above. But should be ok from below as you can see here it still worked afterwards.:-

As with a few other comments this is a great improvement on the RP1 especially once the liberty system is released as well.

Ian think you'll be best off speaking to the intaride guys direct, though I can't see any problem with compatibility with PRR. Haven't had time to mount mine yet but I have made an enclosure from a small component box from Maplins, it should protect the Evo and all the jack plugs and although it won't be completely waterproof it will be alot better than leaving the unit exposed. Bench tested it today though and it seems to work like a dream, I haven't plugged in the quest yet so hopefully I won't have interference problems  I'll be trying it with the supplied lead so fingers crossed :)

Shaun,

Thanks for the pictures. Do you still have the document bracket fixed in place behind the evo?

The reason I ask about the bracket is because I have 2 relays already mounted in that location behind the bracket for additional lights.

What about the bike to bike radio where do people put that?

Thanks

Ian

My new EVO works great, except it falls triggers the vox at low speeds. If I adjust VOX, it makes it so that I have to scream into it. Does anyone else have this problem? If I'm standing in my quiet garage, it won't false trigger. Stopped at a stop light, or driving slowly, it will.

I wonder if it has anything to do with where I have the unit placed? It is in tool tray. when the vox triggers, I get lots of engine noise, and, I can hear anything around me through my earbuds. Top box closing for example. I'm going to move it to manual spot like above picture and see if it helps.

Cheers,
Jim

I know it sounds silly , but have you still got the tools in the tool tray?
Have you tried it without the tools in?

In the past intaride had a case of resonance from the vibrating tools setting off interferance.

Yes document holder still in place and I think I will be following Ned and picking up a small waterproof box from Maplins to finish the install. Reason why my previous RP1 suffered really badly from the damp.

Finally installed mine today, weather was lousy so no test ride yet, had a few problems with the unit, it worked faultlessly until I had the bike running and the vox would trigger randomly, could have been engine noise., I'll have a go at setting it up tomorrow.

No tools, but, i do have a centech panel in there. iwonder if that would cause any funk? gonna move it and see how it goes..

Thanks,
Jim

I've got wires routed now, but, I'd like to throw it in my tankbag after trying the manual location and see if it helps with false triggering. Hope so. It's kind of annoying..

Also, my wife says that cell calls sound "metallic" on her end. Does anyone actually have the "crystal clear communication" claimed? It's clear on my end, I just wonder what its like on the other persons..

After a test on the way to work I got a couple of problems I need to resolve, at very low speed I.e filtering and sat at lights the engine noise seems to be triggering the VOX, also shaun getting alot of interference from my Quest making the music cut in and out (where was your lead from?), this is hopefully down to the routing of the audio lead which I'll retry over the weekend, at speeds above 15mph the unit (when the Quest isn't mounted) works great, Vox is good and isn't triggered falsely and speaker volume is clear easily upto 90mph, that was without earplugs though and my MP3 player on about 3/4 volume. All I need to sort out is interference from the Quest and false triggering at v low speeds and I'll be chuffed to bits! (I wonder if a windsock will stop the low speed problem as I'm sure it's the low rumble from the engine? :nenau )

Been speaking to David at Intaride today.
Mentioned the thread we have running and some of the problems. He said there is an update they can do to the earliest units if you have one. He also said if you have any problems at all can you talk to him so they can keep track of anything that they have not found before and try to sort it ASAP.
