Thanks for the vote of confidence, admitted, at 230kilos their not going to be as quick as say a GSXR, ZXR, BLADE or R1 but still very capable in the right hands :thumb

I had my knee down on my ZZR1400 with my mate chasing behind on a Fazer. Overtook an R1 coming out of a corner onto a straight (he did NOT want me overtaking him) and my mates Panigale 1299 was no faster on the straight.

However, it was a bus haha and would run wide on shit tyres. Wheelbase too long.

But still a nice bike (with quickshifter) :D

Interesting reading this “‘debate”......... as the owner of a triple black gsa adventure LC 2017 and a ktm 1290 sas I feel that both are cracking bikes.....if they were footballers then the gsa would be Paul Scholes....solid, dependable, tackle anything and gets up all the time after going down....... as for the ktm..more like George Best..sure footed, nimble, quick, top performer going past most on the field..yet a little temperamental.
The first thing you notice is how light the ktm is to push out of the garage compared to the dead weight of the beemer...when you climb onboard the bmw feels perfect riding position and so comfortable..they both measure 34 inch cross the bars and whilst the ktm is by no means uncomfortable the beemer wins for me. Standing on the pegs feels perfect for me on the beemer but the ktm seems to have me leaning forwards.. (maybe try bar risers). When you set off the two things that instantly are noticeable are the huge difference in the weight and how agile the ktm feels...then you start flicking through the gears...the quick shifter on the bmw clonks it’s way through whilst the ktm is silky smoothe..just keep the power on and click, click click.....a sheer delight compared to the bmw...u turns and all manoeuvres are so effortless on the ktm , however the width across the Touratech panniers is 4 inches wider than the beemer so filtering has to be thought about. The ktm power is vastly noticeable and overtakes are so much easier....someone on here said that the bmw would live with the ktm...erm, NO.....the heated grips on the ktm seem hotter than bmw and the heated seat burns your ass on low setting. I agree that the beemer switches for grips and heated seats etc are much easier than scrolling through pages of tiny print to adjust your ass warmer....
Out of the two I would say that my long haul trips will be on the beemer but a few days in Scotland, France etc would be enjoyable on the ktm.....
as for chain or shaft....I spend some time in Morocco and therefore a fair bit of sand...... chains, grease and sand....no.
Have to say tho that the ktm dealer said no need to clean the chain ..just lubricate it....time will tell.
For me the beemer just has a nose in front but for a bike to put a smile on ya face....has to be ktm..
