Guys,
Being new to the GS (2007 Adventure) I am looking for a bit of advice please....

All too often I am struggling to get 1st gear when engine is cold - first thing in the morning especially. Most times two or three attempts and eventually it goes in, however occasionally not. It doesn't feel or look like the gear selector is bent or misaligned (fouling) and it doesn't even feel mechanical. Occasionally the gear indicator will be flashing up 4th or 5th whilst trying to select 1st!

99% of the time once warmed up I have no such problem.

Any ideas?

PS: Anyone got any idea how much a new heated grip (R/H/S) would be, assuming it has to come from BMW? Thanks

With the bike in neutral, keep a constant downward pressure on the gear lever and gradually let out the clutch and the gearbox will drop into first gear.

When my bike was cold, I'd pull the clutch in once, while in neutral, then let it out, still in neutral. Pull the clutch in a second time, and it would pop straight into first. One of the characteristics of the bike:comfort:D

Works best with mine also.

Worked the same on my shaft drive Yamaha. Starting the engine with clutch pulled in can sometimes help.

That's what I used to do, something to do with the dogs in the gearbox not lining up if I remember correctly, woof woof :thumb2

Heated grip,

Put a I WANT ONE IN THE WANTED SECTION:D
You never know, one could be lurking out there with your name on it.

yes, something about it being a dry clutch and certain bits dont line up like on 'normal' bikes? as has been said 'character'!

Nothing to worry about, just the oil coring as its cold.

Aircraft at times have to sit at idle to alllow the oil temp to rise before putting the engines any higher.

The equiv is us waiting 30 secs or so, or use above method, works for me :)

The gears easily engage when barely turning but usually not when stopped. There is NO wet clutch drag on these bikes with a dry clutch, in addition the transmission spools down almost instantly when the clutch is pulled in. So, unlike most bikes you don't have to pull the clutch in and hesitate before clicking into gear, in fact you shouldn't. Just snick into gear right when the is pulled in.
